The original neck on the Forum 5 has a great feel. You should try it out. The neck pocket is a Peavey original so you will likely need to do some routing to make a graphite replacement neck fit. Could be a great combination - like a Tim the Toolman version of the GV.

The stock VHL pickups are very good. They are similar to pickups on Cirri, but are wider and pickup from more of the strings. The pickup are also truely huge. They are not only very wide, but also very deep. If Fred ever makes the 5 string Dark Star pickups this is probably the only bass where they will be a drop in fit with no routing needed. The stock 2 band preamp is also good.

If your Forum 5 only weighs 10 pounds then you have a rare light one. The four that I have all weigh in at 11 pounds. All the metal (bridge, tuners, THICK control plate, knobs, etc) and the huge pickups contributes to the weight.

OPINION TRADE time...

So I have someone willing to trade my Natural Finish Cirrus 5 + Mahogany Oil Finish Foundation 4 (1st Ferrite Generation)

He's willing to trade a Bogart 5 Blackstone for it... I'm well aware the only folks outside of Europe that know this bass are me and Tony Levin.

My hang up is that I am the original buyer of the Foundation (I never play it).. I never play the Cirrus (it doesn't have the Millenium Preamp)... I've only bought one new bass in my life.. it was this special order Foundation.

Feel free to ask what a Bogart is if you don't know (I have a fretless already.. )

Good trade or bad trade (all peavey love aside).

To be honest, I've never really heard you talk so emotionally about a bass as you are about your Foundation. While I would normally say trade it if you can do better, I think it might be a mistake in this case. You realize your reason for keeping it has nothing to do with its use as a tool, but is based on the memories it brings up in you. I would try to see if there is another piece you could substitute in the trade.

Thanks! It was an impulse buy off of Craigslist. I thought I'd buy it, scoff at it, then flip it. First time I played it I knew it was a keeper. How did I miss these things all these years? Best $100 I've spent in a long time.

Your uncertainty is a part of your answer, I think. You buy and sell basses regularly (or it appears so to me, anyway) and you've never sought out TB opinions that I've seen. So, why is this one different?

Heart appears to be trying to tell you that you'd regret it.

Curious as to why someone wants to trade you something if what they have is better.

The easiest comparison is to consider a Bogart a "generic Botique Status." I pick up German Botiques as they're way under valued in the USA.. a Blackstone goes for about $3,000 (in USD).

Still thinking... unsure which one goes better on my promo gear list.

Most basses are replaceable, except those with special history and emotional value. Maybe that Foundation really belongs displayed on the wall somewhere in your house. It doesn't need to be played to have value to you.

Thanks - I totally understand.... if you walked in the house, you'd never have a clue that I played.. only visable instrument is a grand.. everything is kept at the warehouse.

I know this will sound nutty --- I find it easier shipping to a cool TBer (Geoff, Tony, Nick etc) all of these guys would ship back when done.

I'll see if I can dig up a pix.. it's the only "road worn" bass I own.. the rest look new.

Tim (MNAirHead) suggested I drop in and look around. This is an extensive club page! Proud owner of a new (to me) T-40, and it is gorgeous! Amazing that a 30 year old bass guitar could be this cherry. But then, they are built like a tank! I figure this bass had very little play time, and probably spent most of its life locked away in a case in somebodys closet. It is SWEEEET! Took it all apart for a good cleaning, shielded those cavaties, restrung it, made a few adjustments, intonated it, and took it to practice yesterday. It outperforms basses I spent Waaay more on, and the tones produced.....BUTTER! Love it! Classic Vintage Peavey!
