I just bought a 1981 very nearly pristine T-40 with the teardrop case.
As I said in the kinda NBD post, I seriously doubt it will leave the house on a gig, although I may take to a session and see how it sounds.
Might there be numbers? Fine, if not.

Looks like it just came out of the factory..good purchase. Nice looking T-40..just needs the little TRC cover to finish it off lol

Ahh, yes, it’s handy.
It will go back on once I get the tool and adjust the relief. I’m betting it’s never been adjusted in 41 years,….

No, it’s a premium color that he had left over from a car or bike repair. The pint cost $242 back when he bought it 2 years ago. YIKES!!!

As I intended, I took the T40 out to my guitar guy’s shop where he was gonna loan me his 5/16” Gibson/Peavey truss wrench to make the adjustments. He actually took the bass and checked the nut to see if it was frozen. It moved like it was new and he adjusted the relief perfectly. Once I played it, we discovered that the seventh fret had lifted up under the G string. Once again, he fixed that problem perfectly with some thin cyao glue. I still have to set the action height and intonation, but this bass is turning into quite the surprise player. That is, if I wanted it to. I still intend to gig the bass, just give it a good home and play it occasionally.
Have any of you had any success using any non-Peavey necks that feel as good and have the same or better quality ? I have some bodies that need necks and they are hard to find unless I wait, which I've done in the past many times and it just takes patience, which comes and goes.

First… what do you find so appealing about the Peavey necks? And, which necks are you referring too? The bilaminate necks of the 80s may be shaped well, but the seam turned out to be a bad idea.
I plan to use a non-Peavey neck for the Kopper Pearl refinished T-40 that I posted some pics of. I’ll have to reshape the neck heel. But, I have the tools and practice under my belt.
I think the bi-laminate necks are great as long as they haven't been abused by the neck tilt adjustment. Just my opinion
I find the feel, radius, and overall "Peavey-ness" appealing. Peavey necks feel like they were made for me. I KNOW some of you feel the same. That's why there's chocolate, vanilla, Nike, and Skechers. We all like what we like because it fits us. Plus, I like that it says PEAVEY on the headstock.
WOW, ok this open up this club in a whole new direction. I have some unfinished 4 and 5 string bolt ons that needs necks. That would be basically any bolt on Peavey bass.
So, it's not that I'm looking for a replacement because I don't like them, but out of necessity.
Oh, and @JEDI BASS said, there are some 35" scale 5'ers, too ! Thanks JJ.

I have one right now with a split at the headstock, under the truss adjustment area. It even has a rosewood board to strengthen the neck, and no evidence of abuse anywhere. The neck looks well cared for.
Oh, and when I asked what he found so appealing, I wasn’t being snarky. Just asking if it's the taper, the fretwork, etc etc
My '86 Foundation and '88 Fury both have maple bilaminate necks - have never had an issue with either, but I use shims and not the neck tilt. (might be a different story!) Yes, I like the width, depth, radius, and overall shape. I also like the fret wire size - I'm no fan of jumbo or medium-jumbo frets. Maybe my favorite feature is not having a separate fingerboard. For me, this makes the already nice rolled edge even more comfortable.
There are a lot of nice necks to be played out there. I agree though I really like the feel and shape of the Foundys not too too thin and a bit rounder, the Patriots..yut! and the wider nut 20s and Fury too! But I also have my trusty old Jazz that is a beauty neck and a P bass that I absolutely love, big wide flatter shape...my Stingray5, awesome neck? I guess I love them all! Lol
