Did you see this MINTY Foundation at GC Used ? They also have a red "transitional" Foundation. It has the next gen block logo neck that's more Fender like and retains the SF pups.

I looked pretty hard at that one, the body, pickups, hardware, frets, fretboard look in really good clean shape.
Truss rod cover is there (and centered well), control knobs look good (don't know if those are stock), and it has the cool triangle Peavey string retainer.
It's also an unusual burst finish color, have not seen others just like it.
I bet it won't sell quickly because it's priced reasonably, instead of cheap-as-all-get-out.

I just bought another bass yesterday, so this one is off the table for me, but I think it is a nice Foundation.

It does look pretty nice. I agree about the color more red maybe, or less black...? My burst fretless looks exactly like every other burst Found Ive ever seen. I got mine for a hundred...

Four votes for Gen 1 and one for the Gen 2/3.
It's a pretty tall order to design a pickup that sounds as good or better than the most popular bass pickup in the world, and I think Peavey did it with the T20/Gen 1 Fury pickup.
I wonder what made Hartley decide to follow convention and put a split P pickup in the Gen 2 & 3 Fury basses?
I also wonder if Fury sales went up when he caved to convention for the Gen 2 & 3 Furys.

I don't know why I like this bass so much but I do. I have too many at this point so I'm going to pass (and I already made a birthday impulse buy this morning) but damn.

I know why...because the finish color is an unusual two-tone red to black sunburst instead of the more common two-tone tobacco sunburst.
It's also way different than the standard yellow/orange/red to black sunburst that the old standby Fenders have.
Peavey also had to use alder or ash because it's not an opaque colored bass, so the body wood is an upgrade from poplar.
And because the hardware and knobs and pickups look brand new.
The only signs of it being used are some marks on the back of the neck.

I know they used a lot of poplar for opaque finishes and swamp ash (maybe hackberry) for clear coat finishes, and the occasional mahogany body with an invisible finish.
That one might be maple but the weight of those basses tells me it's probably alder which is lighter and cheaper than maple.
I've not seen a maple Peavey body, I don't think.
I tend to think after they printed many of the manuals in 1983 they decided to use poplar (cheap and available in Mississippi) for opaque finished basses and probably used alder for the sunburst ones and then ash for the clear coated ones.
I'm not sure that is all accurate, but those were my thoughts.. and our old friend Mech said that was correct for the Fury, Foundation, Foundation S, Patriot, Forum PJ's, and some other models.
That was before Peavey started making the high end basses (and neck-through) that came later when they got into the exotic stuff.

That same silhouette is also shared by the first-gen Foundation, Dyna, etc. And I agree, it is somehow (I can't quite articulate in cognitive terms why) more elegant and graceful than the marshmallow shaped bodies that Fender loves so much.

I prefer the ones without pickguards though.
