I use the Ultimate GS100 stands. I think they claim to be nitro safe. They certainly haven't hurt my '66 Precision. I also use Hercules wall hangers. Same deal. If I were buying new stands, I would actually really look at the Hercules stands, too. The Ultimate goes for about $30 and the Hercules, $35. The Hercules looks a bit more secure against accidents, but it might not pack down as small. I'd have to see it in person to decide. But, I don't think you would really have anything to worry about with either.

Oh, and, is your Foundation a nitro finish?? I kind of doubt it. I'm no expert, but I've never heard of a Peavey bass with a nitro finish.

If you're buying it as an investment - i.e. specifically to make money on it by selling for a profit later - then okay, maybe you should hold out for the eBay one. After all, an investment doesn't have to feel or sound good to you. It just has to advertise well later. But, in the grand scheme of basses that you want to PLAY, a GOOD bass is a bargain at $350, and you shouldn't let a measley $350 price tag lure you into falsely thinking that it must not be THAT good just because it's so inexpensive.

Anyone who feels the need to play a bass before buying it, that's ok. I actually support this outlook, as it limits the bidding pool on ebay and gives me better deals.

I can't even recall how many basses I've bought from ebay. Only one was a dog, and I got my money back when I returned it. And I gave the seller negative feedback for my trouble.

Not all T-40s were super heavy. Some were under 10 pounds. Not light, but way better than 12 to 14 pounds.

I suppose if you built a new bass around the T-40 pickups you could make it pretty light. It might not be the same though. There is tons of disagreement, but heavy bodies don't really seem to be better than lightweight ones. However, it seems to me that heavy metal (tuners, bridge, wide pickups, etc.) does add more character to the tone.
