U.S. Peavey Club

I got my 1998 back from GROAT GUITARS here in Santa Rosa, CA. They made a custom walnut pickguard for it.

I tried using every different kind of Peavey VFL pickup on this bass. I also bought some Seymour Duncan active pickups because they will work with the Peavey preamp, but in the end, I decided to keep it 100% Peavey. I bought a new set of VFL Millennium Jazz pups for it. I also tried different pickup placement and the one I landed on is the best.

I can nail a Pbass tone better than a stock Cirrus can, get a great jazz tone, and the blend of the two with the center detent sounds just like an Alembic Essence, only darker. This is one Serious Cirrus !!

Very nice! Have you ever played a Mill 4JJ to compare the two?

Yeah I found this a while back, but none of the colors on there look like what I have. The Mill 4JJ I had was seafoam green, which isn't on the chart, so I'm guessing there are some Mill's out there in colors not listed... maybe toward the end of the Mill's run?

the only one that look remotely close is Neon Blue, but that looks a lot more purple-ish. Mine is more blue-green-ish....lol.


EDIT: Just got an email from Peavey- their records show it's Peacock Blue, which could be either #6 or #17 on the chart, based on name. It's definitely a solid color, not transparent, but is closer to #6, despite it being both solid AND metallic. lol.

I was guessing PCB Metallic, just from your pics and this chart. Maybe the color has simply changed a bit over time? Sort of like Oly White basses turn yellow as they age (though I do understand poly finishes don't change as much as nitro).

Hmmmm.... maybe. Although, I've owned basses that were colors 7, 12 and 16, and the color chart was pretty much dead-on.

Thanks NJB. Yes, I have owned many Milli USA's before in both MJ and JJ. (MusicMan / Jazz and Jazz / Jazz )

Personally, I think think this sounds better than the JJ . Maybe it's the neck thru, or the placement. The constant underlying tone IS a Cirrus tone, but with way more options. So, now it's not quite a Cirrus, or a Miili, or an Alembic, but it has definite characteristics of all three. My Unicorn has become a Chameleon.:D

I see where your coming from. I have an '83 with the slanted Super Ferrite and a '90 with the split-P. The SF is pretty mean and growly compared to the P.

The necks are completely different too - Hard to believe they are both Fury's.

That being said, I am planning on selling all of my US Peavey's except these two and my Millennium.
