I've wanted to try one, but haven't had a chance. I've heard they are somewhat Music Man-esque in tone.

Here's an extremely rare one. Peavey Resolite hollow body. I only know of one other and it's red and has a D-tuner. It has a very decent thumpy sound but with definition. This is not mine and I have no affiliation with the seller. Located in the UK.

So I just scored this weekend a Foundation in Candy apple red with matching pointy headstock for $150. I think it was a steal! Its in really great shape. This is the 3rd American Peavey bass I have owned including a Patriot and t40 and never spent over $200 on any of them. I'm also using a Peavey Tmax head that I bought for $200 and is better than most heads I have played costing 4 times as much. I'll take a number if they are still giving them out. Seller's remorse with a good ending.

While unemployed about a year ago I sold various things try to make bills. During that time a friend started playing bass in a band he was involved in so I sold him my 95 Peavey foundation 5 for a very modest price. Almost immediately I missed my bass and wished I had not sold it. I figured it was gone forever. A couple months ago my friends band split up. My friend was kind enough to sell me back my bass for the same price he bought it from me for. I got it back from him last night and have not hardly put it down today. I will probably have withdrawals when I go back to work Thursday

Wow. I like that a lot, and if I had the dough, I might have bid on it. The price wasn't unreasonable at all. I wonder how a prototype like that got over to the UK?


I've seen another bass with a headstock like that. It was a RJ-IV, and also labeled as a "prototype". I thought it might have been a fake, but I guess not?

I had one of these. It is very similar in most ways to an early 2-band Stingray. In typical Peavey style it was extremely well built.

The tone is very Musicman-like, but as I tend to like passive tones this was not really the best for me. In another nod to early Musicman,peavey did not give this bass a forearm bevel. While I understand this stylistically, I did not like it in practice. It was also a bit heavier than other 90's Peaveys. It was still lighter than early eighties peavey basses, I would guess it was 9 to 9 1/2 lbs. But my bad back made my significantly lighter Foundations much more comfortable.

Despite these issues, my Forum is one of the few basses I regret letting go. I traded it on desperately needed drums for my bandmate/nephew. It sat at Sam Ash for a few months and at least three times I picked it up and started walking toward the checkout to buy it back only to return it to the stand before I got there. when it finally sold I was not sure if I was more disappointed or relieved by the loss of temptation.

Went over to a trade show and didn't make it back. Most trade show gear is sold to dealers rather than paying to ship it back. I saw that RJIV, too, and thought it was real although Chip Todd didn't build it as the seller claimed. He was long gone from Peavey when the RJIV came out.

I agree that the bass above is still cool, but the headstock does suck. What were they thinking ?

I agree that a traditional Peavey shape would've looked great. Don't they know that Peavey fans are as loyal as Fender fans ?

This one doesn't remind me of an Ibanez Roadstar, but of the horrible Fender Squier that was around in the 80's. Yuck !!!

Grabbed an 80's Foundation off the 'bay for $158 shipped! That would be great news except...

Well, I'll preface this by saying I've never had a Foundation. I have and LOVE my early 80's T-40, and I briefly had a Palaedium. I also put on a fresh set of DR Fat Beams that I've never tried before...they were just sitting around so I figured I'd try 'em.

Aside from being possibly the worst packing job I have ever seen, issues include

Crack on the back that goes from the D string tuner to the third fret...really don't know if it can be repaired or not

Pots that are so noisy...gotta be replaced.

Some of you Foundation owners can help out here...the neck pickup is about 5x louder than the bridge pickup...Neck pickup sounds really nice...bridge pickup is really thin and weak. Can I assume this isn't normal?

I was so looking forward to getting this bass, and I still want to figure something out...it's a sunburst/rosewood with an unpainted headstock...really nice looking classic bass.
