Banana Fury back in business.... Very happy with the result. Plays better than the one I had new in 92. Headstock logo ended up a bit small and the chap that made it forgot to transfer the old serial number. However apparently when the neck settles he will rectify that. I can't put it down.....excuse the awful photo ....

Thanks. It was away for a long time as the gentleman doing the work is only just setting up shop and in the end the whole guitar got a refinish. I managed with my Dyna my p bass and recent roadstar but to be fair playability on this just suits me better. Resonance is improved whatever clear coat he used is so smooth it's just ridiculous. Dimentions are exact copy of the original . The T40 tuners and black pearl fret markings are only subtle changes but a world of difference and really quite a chique feel for such a cheap bass ;)

This is the 1st Cirrus prototype. I got the body in a trade years ago and built it up with late model parts, including a Millennium pre. Mike Powers played it for a couple of years. They didn't have wood long enough for a 35" neck through and patched in a piece at the butt. There are a million screw holes under the bridge where different ones were tried. No Cirrus logo at the 12th fret or Cirrus on the peghead. Name either hadn't been chosen or parts were not available. Pencil line on the back of the peghead where someone was playing with the shape. Haven't figured out the exact type of redwood but I think it is no longer available. Was cleaning it today and took the detail pics.

I was casually looking through the Talkbass classified ads about 2 years ago and came upon an ad for a nice Foundation FL for cheap. On an impulse I bought it. The bass arrived and I was blown away with the great tone and how beautifully it plays.

That was the beginning.

Then I bought my Redwood top Cirrus 6. Next was a Foundation 5 for $199 off Guitar Center’s website. A Millennium 5 came my way but got swapped for a Flame Maple top Cirrus 5. I traded a Stingray 5 for a like new Wenge top Cirrus 6. Then a new old stock Millennium J/J 4 was added to the collection. Several other US Peavey basses made visits to my collection.

Today I was looking through ads for USA Peavey basses. I really want a TL5 and a GV.

I am a sick man, friends.

Thanks! I didn't actually do a mod thread. I just posted periodic updates here. You're right, the TWs truly are fantastic! It was luck that landed a pair in my lap, since I'd never heard them in a bass, except on youtube clips. I've just been on an EMG solderless kick lately, and the TWs fit the routes well.... and a pair ended up for sale at the right time.

As for the preamp, yes it's all EMG too. It turns out the bass had the same import preamp that comes with the MK1s in Ibanez Soundgears, and something was not right since I could barely get sound out of the bass. I had been buying various EMG components used, and had a few volumes and tones, and a BTC system which included a volume, pickup blend pot, and a bass/treble stack. I purchased 2 push/pull volumes so I could switch the TWs each from single to dual coil independently. And, now the TL5 has the 2 push/pull volumes, the bass/treble stack, and a tone pot installed.

I played the TL5 earlier and it has an amazing B string, which is a huge factor in how I rank and feel about any particular 5 string bass. That, plus the fact that the bass has tone comparable to boutiques worth 5 times what I have invested in it, makes me very happy!!

There is a listing on Ebay. The copy says it is a Cirrus BXP...neck thru etc. The photo is of a Dyna bass. I sent the seller a message telling him what his bass is and his response is "I kno". If he knows it is a Dyna why list it as a Cirrus BXP?
