Well, didn't follow MNAirHead's very savvy advice and picked it up on the way home tonight.

I wanted to play it, since I didn't even try it out at the pawn shop, so I put my Fury neck on it. The Fury is currently torn apart while I refinish it. Neck screwed in nice and tight and feels great on this bass too.

I believe this to be an '83 and it has the Super Ferrite pickups.

I don't have the correct Peavey trussrod adjustment tool, but I believe I'll be ordering one. With two Peavey's, it just seems like the logical thing.

The original neck has a broken tuner. If anyone has one laying around that matches...shoot me a PM and we'll go from there.

All of the electronics work and they work well.

I missed out on one of these a few weeks ago at a local shop. That one was in better condition (this one has some mojo working...particularly around the edges.) The one I missed out convinced me I wanted locate another. Love the bite and snarl of the bridge pickup. The neck is pretty mellow and smooth. Together...just a great sounding bass.

So, are there better ones out there? Yea, probably, but I really like the sunburst, the super ferrites and the original Peavey knobs. I may get my dual-action polisher out and have a go after I clean it up, but I think that will be about it. I'm liking the mojo on this one.

You didn't do bad... I would have guessed it to be a colored bass.. not a burst (burst adds about $75-85 to the value).. nice touch..

The fender style tuner is generic (like your broken foundy).. not the Y shaped ones - they're less common.... I guessed the fine tuner Y Tuner


Opinion.. move your E Tuner over.. then pick up a drop D tuner.. they pop up in accessories frequetly for about $50... this tuner may have fender stamped into it...

All parts does sell singles for under $30 (if I remember correctly)

Thanks, you've helped reduce a bit of buyer's remorse. I have a few weeks to decide which bass goes. If I had to choose tonight the TBC would be up for sale. The G&L just does everything it can do and more.

You were right on the money with your description of my Fury.

And thanks for the tip re: drop tuner. I had thought of it, but wasn't sure. Never used one.

I never "got" a drop D Tuner.. you do have a cool spot to put one on.. I've owned a few.. only used them when trying to get a spinal tappish chuckle out of band mates.

You really found a diamond in the rough - my apologies for guessing it would be a painted/chipped body for your price tag.

Do you have a challenges going from a chunky G&L to your pencil necks?

I have the truss rod covers for both. Just have them off at present as the Fury neck needed a good cleaning and the Foundation needs an adjustment.

I was hoping it was a "diamond in the rough." I've been following the discussion in this thread and in the Foundation threads for a while now and THOUGHT I'd found a decent bass, but still a rookie.

Good question about the different necks. The G&L Trib neck is massive, but no, not a problem switching between them. Oddly, I really, really enjoy both neck styles.

Thanks, BassicJohn. I actually first saw this several weeks ago and I just couldn't get the 'burst out of my head. After I missed out on the one at a local shop I decided to stop and take another look.

MNAirHead's advice was probably the most logical and proper course of action. Heart overruled my head.

I figured that even if I'd paid for a dud that I'd be able to sell off parts and come pretty close to my initial investment.

I have a tuner in my junk droor that you could use. It will not match perfectly but it will probably fit. You will have a difficult if not impossible time finding a perfect match for that tuner. Every Fender-style "Elephant Ear" tuner I've ever seen has four screw holes; yours has only two. Also, there are about a zillion companies making elephant ear copies and many of them are a little different - different shape tuner handle, different shape rear. Sometimes screw holes match up, sometimes they don't. This makes a D-tuner a logical choice. If you don't mind a slightly non-matching tuner, I have a spare as I said - shoot me a PM. It's really cheap from my Jay Turser JTB-401.

Congratulations you got a great deal on that bass. If it were mine I wouldn't mind a non-matching tuner.

I've wandered through these pawn shops a lot to find these two Peavey's. Definitely worth it.

New vintage/used store in Brownsburg has a T-20 in natural finish, but price of entry was a lot more. Think he was asking $280 for that one.

Nice looking Foundation, and a pretty sweet price despite the bad tuner.

As mentioned, finding an OEM tuner won't be easy. I think I read that these fine tuners were spec'd for Peavey by Schaller. Never seen them anywhere but on early Peaveys, and never seen used ones for sale.

Hope you find one to complete the set, they are some of the best machines ever made. Ever.

Not all of them.. like the rest of the line.. they either had "clover leaf" or "Y" tuners..

They'd change the entire line over at the same time (probably a parts contract)

Man I miss the days of a "beginner" bass having better hardware and finishing than my upper end fenders.

Thanks guys! I'm really enjoying the bass. Just a great sound. Looks really good with a clean and polish. The dents and dings just seem right on this bass.

The tuner has been shipped and should be here by the weekend. Can't wait to get the rosewood neck back on this and hear what changes that makes.

And Tim, I'll keep you in mind if there is an issue with a match. The Fury tuners on mine are really nice tuners.
