Bleecker, how long have you had that black '85? I sold mine on Reverb 2.5 years ago to someone in Niskayuna, NY, which isn't far from Elizabethtown. It's a dead ringer for yours-even the knobs and gig bag look like they match up, from what I can tell and remember. Peavey made dozens to hundreds of black fretless Foundations in 85... but I just wonder if you have my old bass! Here's a link to my old sale page. Whoa! It's the same bass! Same serial number. A friend of mine was buying a guitar from a guy down there and this bass was available for $300. He sent me a picture and I said grab it! Then to my surprise, it was fretless! I may have passed on it if I had known, but its a nice bass.

Small world for sure man!

That is cool! The truss cover and pickups, are those covers? aftermarket? Or where they offered on 90's basses? All my Peavey's are from the 80's...

This is the twin to my '91 foundation, and I believe they used this style headstock sometime into early 1992. Likely a poplar body, and the hardware on these isn't amazing, but the neck has a BIG slab of rosewood that looks and feels GREAT. 400+50 shipping seems a little high for what's pretty much inferior to the 80s models, but I like mine plenty, especially after upgrading the tuners and bridge. If only it wasnt that gaudy Fisher Price red lol

I see, and many thanks for the info. So is there anything of a timeline for the "cursive lettering" / "black outline" / "updated font" headstocks?

Looks like a '92 script logo I used to own one. but the 80's versions were my favorite's. So as soon as I got my '86 Foundation the '92 version was sold on, just liked the whole look of the 80's versions better.

Then in 1992, you get the first movement toward block letters, but still using the same big clover keys and headstock shape with the less pronounced curve. Like this one here [Invalid or Expired Link Removed]

Naahh @Bleecker I spent hours cutting those white "Peavey" logo's from a sheet of "contact" using a razor blade. That contact stuff is what we used eons ago covering our school books..shiny plasticy finish on one side and self sticking on the other...those traced, self cut and applied logos have been on the pups and TRC for about 30 years now..something to be said for a good book covering material loll

Wow...that is a SICK Foundation, hats friggin off friend. Absolutely gorgeous! Just looks like it needs fingerless leather gloves and a jeans jacket with the arms cut off and a spiky mullet to really bring out the toan...

It's a series/parallel switch the previous owner had installed.

Thank you it's a great bass & plays really nice. Would love to have a spiky mullet now :laugh:.
