Uber 410 = Uber Bad *ss

What a great suprise I got today-My Genz Benz Uber 410 Cab came today and I tried it out for about an hour with my Genz Benz GBE1200 Head and MTd Z4 Fretted and Frettless Basses...I know I've never so quickly dialed in such awesome tone, and after just a minute or 2, I had come across some of the snarliest, fattest, biting, dark and burning tones I'd ever heard from my bass and GBE-no effects whatsoever-not even a BDDI...with the tube gain on about 1:30 and volume at 2:30, BASS AND LO-MID at 1:30 and everything else flat, except slight boost in bass and midsas well as a litlle accent on the bridge pup on my active bass -think Gary Willis with Jaco and older Jack Bruce tones. This cab is like magic...I never heard a cab make such a huge difference in the sound of a head...it maybe made to complement the GBE 1200...but maybe it will make any amp sound that great-i did'nt try any others withthe cab....but I sure like my GBE1200 alot better with this cab. The main reason that I decided to keep the GBE1200 was because of how great it sounded hooked up to my EarCandy BassBomb 212 cab...it sounded very similar to the tones I just described for the Uber 410 cab, so much so I ordered a second BassBomb about 2 weeks ago. Maybe one reason today that I was able to find that same tone so fast was because I already had my basses and GBE1200 dialed in and set up for the BassBomb cab ...but the tones may even possibly be more varied with the Uber 410 they are with my than my BassBomb...although I didn't A/B them side by side...Tonight was the UBER 410 in the spotlight only...more comparisons later...It was even more  than I expected from this cab. Great Job Benz Guys :D...Peace...DAcat...

I'm glad you're liking the cab. To answer your question about a reference amp: certainly there is lots of development that goes on along with our own amps but, we also use others as well.

When Jeff sends me a prototype, typically it gets played with:
SWR SM400
SADOWSKY SA200
AMPEG SVT
EPIFANI 502
ASHDOWN EVO
ASHDOWN MARK KING
TRACE HEXAVALVE
TRACE V6
...and assorted GB amps.

Very interesting that you use the 2 separate TE amps as well as two separate Ashdown amps for testing...Peace...DAcat

Hmm...

a bit OT, but just a little. The Uber 210 is 20" tall. does that include the feet? I mean, if put on it's side, is it a full 20" 'wide', thereby being wide enough to put a standard rack on top and it not stick out the sides?? Is there an Uber-SLV forthcoming??

Hey coyoteboy...I would'nt know...I only have the Uber 410-maybe Roger will jump in here and answer those questions...or PM Hasbeen...Peace...DAcat

Unfortunately its been a very hectic week for me since getting my Uber 410... but every time I get even 5 minutes I play it -experimenting with all the different tonal variationas that I can get from this cab...I just can't believe what a difference this cab makes in my bass tone-and its not subtle at all...when I think I've just found one of the coolest tones possible -then I find an even cooler gnarlier, fatter, grindier, punchier, darker, woodier, in-your-face :p , one-of a kind sound that I've never got from a cab/amp/bass before :D. Between the Uber 410 cab, my GBE1200 head and my fretted and frettless MTD Z4 basses, the variety of sounds is almost  too overwhelmingly good!! I just have to start writing these down I keep telling myself , but then another great sound pops up :hiding: & before I can get to the pen I've got to play with it and enjoy and explore it for awhile...this is just too good :bassist:...sorry, but I gotta go play some more :hyper: Peace...DAcat

All the positive comments on this cab make it sound very tempting. I wish there was a dealer near me so I could try it out. My biggest concern is how does this cab handle the thick vintage tone? Could this be used for classic rock and old school funk, or does it have a modern sound to it?

I like a thick, warm tone but with plenty of definition. My Avatar 212 has a nice thick articulate sound to it but I'm not crazy about my Avatar 210, it just doesn't have the fatness that the 12's have. I'm sure the size difference in the 210 box vs the 212 box has something to do with it, which is also why I'm considering replacing the 210 with a 410. Any advice/info is appreciated.

In my opinion the Uber410 is NOT a modern sounding cabinet. I love old school tone (maybe because I am old) you can get a modern tone out of this cabinet but it's strngth is a cleantight punchy rocking tone.

I'm old school and my 810Uber along with my GBE1200 delivers all the old school tone with tight punch that I need. And there's lot more that I can dial in if ever needed.

I've got to assume (never having played through a 410Uber) that other than the 410Uber being half the size of my 810Uber, they both sound pretty much the same.

TD

It is a kicker if the 810 is too much. I love the Uber410/212 combination. It's the size of an 810 give or take but the 212 thickens the 410 for a real blunt force old school trauma

Hey Blmeier...NO WORRIES:rollno:...what this cab does best is "thick vintage tone"...gobs of aggressive, hot, snarly, angry, dark, fat, thick crazy tone that...I hate to say... you will likely forget all about your Avatars(I've previously owned Avatar 210s, 212s, and 410s)...these cabs are just amazing cabs...the Avatars will sound sterile in comparison. However-I can get a cleaner ,more modern sound from my Uber 410 when I play thru my GBE 1200 FET Channel with less gain and less bass tone...if you want it...Peace...DAcat

Thanks DAcat, that helps. Now it just make me want one even more.

It seems that a lot of the Uber cab owners are using the GBE 1200. How do the Uber cabs sound with non GB heads?

I would most likely be powering the cab with the Carvin B1500, and have considered a Titan V12 down the road. Just curious how these cabs work with other heads.

The only GB head I have owned/tried was the Neo Pak and it was way too high-fi for me. I'm sure the GBE 1200 is completely different though. I'm just trying to get a good idea of the tone of this cab and how the head contributes so I can make a good decision. Unfortunately I don't get to try much gear out before I buy.

Hey ...I can totally feel your pain-I live in the Boonies of Iowa...far from great music stores-I talked at length with GB to try and locate an Uber cab to try out with in a 3-400 mile radius without luck so I bought the Uber 410 sight unseen and sound unheard...I think its the best musical purchase I may have ever made. I still have'nt hade the chance though to try it out with another head, but I have a feeling that it it will make them sound better...its made all my basses sound better and my Genz Benz GBE1200 sounds like the greatest head I've ever owned now...I am loving playing this cab so much that I have'nt had time to drag home my EarCandy 212 cab to compare it with, which also sounds magical through this GBE1200 head. Good predicament to be in...Peace...DAcat
