Good sound! Just curious, how do you set your string height? Low, high, in between? I have the same bass btw.
I would say in between for gut, though I'm going to raise it soon. A couple of guys who have never played gut thought it was high, but they've never played gut. My old bass was higher for sure.
It was a little low for my liking when I first got it, so I raised it a bit. Now I'm ready to increase it even more. I wanted to wait until I played it for a while to draw any conclusions. Now that I've got over a year, and more importantly four north east seasons on it - I'm ready for some subtle adjustments.
Ah, guts! That's probably a big reason i like the sound. Like you, i have been gradually raising the strings since i got the bass in early 2015. Still using the original Zyex strings that came with the bass.
So im guessing the Bohemian laminate is a good choice for a starter bass. I really like the peace of mind that it would probably arrive at my door set up in very playable condition. I'm primarily a BG player but the last time i played a DB was when I was 13. Two other options I considered were the Shen SB-100 & 150 which people seem to really be impressed with as well.
I can tell you there is a big difference between my new Upton Bohemian ply bass and the 2 others I have owned, quality is not even close to compare. One of which was an Englehardt, the other an Eastman (among the better imported basses, similar to Shen).
Tone and fit/finish/playability all dramatically better.
More coin, sure, but worth every penny, particularly if you can find one on the secondary market.

does upton make their own extension fingers? i forget the name of the ones on your bass, but i ended up getting mine replaced with a wooden finger that works much better on my bass.
It's not a fingerboard extension, it's a full one-piece fingerboard with the solo swoop built in. Have it on my Upton Bohemian, and it looks really cool (I don't play up there, just like the look alot).
I just told Eric that I like classic looking varnish but just a little darker!
I'm having a Upton Bohemian Hybrid with Deluxe top made. They started on Mar 29. I can't take the waiting...it's too much. How long does it take? Also as I wait I find myself wanting to add things as well and I'm currenly trying to figure out what varnish I really want. ugh!! the suspense is killing me.

Yeah I'm getting rev solo as well. And most likely the black hair workshop bow. Everyday I watch videos of them making basses, just imaging its mine.
I know...I so wanted to get a new upright this year but I had to bail because of unexpected bills. But then I play my trusty old 2005 Hawkes and I can't complain about only having one. It's a really great bass.
To report back in, I've had my fully carved Upton for about two months now, have played probably around 30 gigs with it and two recording sessions. It's got a German Spruce top, English Sycamore(maple) back and sides, removable neck, and a C-extension. I can hear the instruments voice slowly changing already. I've been treating it with a Tone-Rite 24/7 when I'm not playing it and have even brought the Tone-Rite on the road with me for a few short tours. I've noticed the biggest change since I've had the TR on the lowest setting. Been about a month using the lowest possible setting now. The instrument is resonating a lot more since day one and the sustain has improved without question. Whether or not that has to do with the TR or it being played at gigs several times a week, I'm not the expert nor am I saying a TR will help or change your instruments voice.
Either way, I'm very happy with it, and am looking forward to getting to know the instrument more as its voice grows and matures.
