Vegetarian Club Anyone?

Here in NZ, a small provincial country where many people can thank the dairy and sheep industry for their income, or their families income, it's much harder. No such thing as a vege option at any fast food chain, unless you leave the meat off at Subway, but just taking the meat away is hardly the right idea. Faux-meat products are horribly expensive here too, probably due to our meat industry heritage, so being a student, I make do without. I live in NZ's most 'liberal' city, so vegan food can be found, but just like anywhere else in the country, you still get the same old people with old ideas. God-forbid someone would go veg in a small town.

Even in California there isnt an abundance of vegetarian places, though if you look you'll find one somewhere. The fast food options arent plentiful... meatless items at Del Taco or Taco Bell, Veggie Delight at Subway, Grilled Cheese at In N Out, etc.
Meat substitutes arent very cheap either, average about 3.99 for a pack of 4 Morning Star burger patties.

Thanks! I will look into that one. I don't know if I can go all out vegetarian but, would like to start introducing 1-2 veggie meals a week and see where it leads.

Its kind of funny, because when people hear "vegetarian food" they tend to get defensive and all like "Yuck, I dont want to eat this meatless stuff" not realizing that they eat plenty of vegetarian food as well.

My wife insisted we only serve veggie food at our wedding. My family was cool with it, but some people on her side of the family were like "What? No, youre not". She was set on having her way in this regard, and eventually she won out. We had a great French Chef cater our wedding, one of the top chef's in Orange County. He said he likes to cook veggie food because it allows him more creative expression. The food was AWESOME and EVRYONE raved about it. We served squash & cheese crepes topped with a Port Wine reduction, and fresh Pasta Primavera with lots of fresh picked seasonal vegetables (to accomodate our vegan friends).

There's no harm in eating a meatless meal every now and then.

30 miles is just going to town for me. Didnt think it was all that far. They also have all the vegetarian foods along with cookbooks.

I was just joking, of course. My uncle live near Medford!

The closest one I found to you was in Glendale-about 25 miles. Theres also one in Loma Linda-about 45 miles.

The closest Vegetarian restaurant? Try 2 miles. My favorite though is about 7 miles in West Covina, called One World.

I may do that...I have been thinking of going up to Grants pass to spend a weekend with an old friend. The intention was to stop by my sister's on the way

Plus there are some great micro breweries in Oregon..so an excuse to sample one would not be unwelcome:D
