Vegetarian Club Anyone?

I may do that...I have been thinking of going up to Grants pass to spend a weekend with an old friend. The intention was to stop by my sister's on the way

Plus there are some great micro breweries in Oregon..so an excuse to sample one would not be unwelcome:D

Oh, Grants Pass! Thats where my other uncle lived, until he moved back down to the desert of SoCal.
Oregon does have some great microbrews!

It was kind of interesting looking through here for recipes. I am in no way a vegetarian...but I do really enjoy cooking. I am always looking for new recipes to experiment with, and I am never opposed to trying new things

Here is one I love. It's using Trader Joe's Soyrizo as a flavor base.

Brown soyrizo, garlic, diced red onion, shallot, shredded carrot in saute pan. Add 1 15oz can Eden Organic No Salt diced tomato, 1 15oz can Eden Organic No Salt whole tomato. Keep warm. In slow cooker on low, add variety of root vegetables. Use ones you like, potato, sweet potato (white or orange), parsnip, turnip, carrot (rainbow varieties add good color), 3 or 4 celery stalks cut in 1/4" slices. A couple of turns cracked pepper. Add whatever spices you like to tomato mixture. I like using Herb De Provence in it. Add on top of veges. Let cook for 6 to 8 hours depending on size on cooker, amount and cut size of veges.

soyrizo is awesome.

Mmmm, yes it is!
When I ate meat I couldnt stomach chorizo knowing what it was, but I liked the taste.
With Soyrizo, one would never know they werent eating the real thing!

Vegetarian for... uhm... many years... and vegan for a couple less years, bassist for a few months now. Hello, everybody.

Welcome Mr Bell [Pepper].

I'm not a vegan or vegetarian but I have finally cut out meat products from my diet down to twice a week. I absolutely love milk though, can't live without it.
Tofu is another thing I love and adopted a sort of asian type diet. Also no seafood. I love fried tofu on top of rice with fermented soybean sauce.

Meat eating caveman for many years, Veggie for last few months.
I think if I became Vegan I would starve to death, but that's just me.
I eat 'cheat meat' like 'turkey & stuffing' and 'salami', just because it tastes nice, does anyone else eat Quorn stuff?

Not sure why people are surprised when I tell them I don't eat fish, that wouldn't make me a Veggie if I did.

Vegetarian since 2000, vegan since last week. Ok, so it took me a while to go all the way... :)

I used to have a vegan bakery called "Sugar Me Not" You can bake delicious cookies and muffins by using high pectin fruits instead of eggs and butter. You can even use a little tofu as and emulsifier. Blending dates or prunes with a little water works great for cookies. Applesauce works good for some muffins. It takes some work to figure out but it can be done. Also it helps to use whole wheat pastry flour. You get the benefits of whole wheat without the heavyness of regular whole wheat flour. I also used to sweeten my products with barley malt, rice syrup and fruit concentrate instead of sugar. When you do this just subtitute barley malt for brown sugar and rice syrup or fruit concentrate for white sugar and half the amount you use.

Vegetarian since 1974. Mostly vegan since 1985--I'll eat a very occasional egg cooked in something, but never any dairy.

Spent a number of years working in/managing health food stores in the 80s and 90s. It's been really interesting watching the arc of vegetarianism in the US over the past 30-plus years. It's almost mainstream now.
