I have sort of mixed feelings here. Personally, I dont' drink much at gigs anymore (Max one beer/cocktail per set, and lately, less than that). Rest of the band is at about the same pace, thankfully.
I don't think you need to go zero tolerance on the singer, but he ought to know, and ought to shape up. Mistakes happen. I'm not even sure he is an alcoholic, if this was a one time thing (some can people get out of hand once or twice without an underlying problem).
But I do think it needs to be addressed. You don't want to routinely compromise the music. You don't want to drive off the audience, or venues. And at some point, a series of bad shows could do that. Especially a bad LS, since that who casual listeners are paying attention to
