Back to Victor, I saw him when he was using and endorsing I imagine Ampeg, and it was a thing of beauty, his sound, his chops, etc.
I saw Marcus Miller play solo, at a clinic. He was hooked into a SWR RedHead and sounded...like Marcus Miller, which is to say, amazing.
Getting some coffee, I chatted with him a little, and we talked about gear, to which he said that he'll either play what's furnished to him, or what his tech recommends, but that even though he digs gear, he felt that players put too much emphasis on what
gear they play, rather than what
music they play, and he told me that at another clinic, when it was Q&A time, he was disappointed that a lot of questions were on his bass, or amp, rather than his modes, his scale approach, or his fingering techniques.
Gotta respect that.
Lots of very good gear on the market today for bassists,, and endorsements are sweet for players like Vic and Marcus whose skills have earned them the status of being a paid endorsee/user.
As for me personally, I'm just gonna keep lovin' my gear, and work on my sound and chops, and keep it real thataway.
>>>BTW, i"ve always liked Hartke gear, and I've heard good things about the Hy-drive stuff!
