VT Deluxe Talkbass group purchase?

Does anybody want one of these? Mine will be here on Wed and I'm thinking I just don't need it. I have a good preamp on my bx500 head. I'm thinking of selling.

How bad am I? Mine came in yesterday and it's still sitting in its box. Granted, I had a long day yesterday and didn't want to wake up the neighbors at midnight.

Looking forward to hooking it up tonight and trying it out. I need to re-build my pedalboard while I'm at it.

So far I'm absolutely loving the VT, but one problem I'm having is keeping each patch 'balanced' with one another volume wise. Any ideas on how to set them so that there is little to no difference in volume between each patch?

To me, this is an issue with using any FX changes during or between songs. Even if you think you have things well balanced when you set it up, certain nuances in the tone changes can make volume differences seem very pronounced on the gig. I think you just have to act like a guitarist in this regard and add a volume pedal to help control this on the fly. Trying to get things setup perfectly is likely never going to happen.

Yeah that's what I figured, and it's actually one of the main reasons I shy away from using effects at all.

Yup. They left it with my next door neighbors. I think this comes down to local regulations and individual carriers more than any single corporate policy.

For bass effects patches to sound like they're at a consistent volume in the context of a live gig, when tweaking the patches I find I have to listen the low end content of the patch and more or less ignore the perceived volume boost that the high end adds when the patch is soloed.

If the low mids (@ ~400 Hz) and below sound even between pedal engaged and pedal bypassed, then the patch volume usually works on the gig.

Reading the manual has me a bit confused (easy on me folks) - Unity Gain (no clue0...

and

It seems to me that running this through the Effects Send to bypass the Amps Eq section makes the most sense?

Unity gain is neither cut nor boost. So when at 12 o'clock it's basically a flat (ish perhaps) eq. When below 12 it's cutting, when past it's boosting.

The reason they mention this is because on some pedals having it fully counter-clockwise is 0, or unity gain.

In a nutshell, think of the faders on a graphic EQ, or on a mixing desk. The 0 is unity gain.

I'm sure there's a MUCH better way of explaining it, but it's been over 10 years since I fully studied audio so putting my knowldge into actual words has gotten pretty rusty over time...

FINALLY got it! Spent about 20 minutes finding some basic tones at home then took it to rehearsal. Sounded good so far - still got some tweaking to do before Friday's gig.

The only complaint is I got a "Perfect G****r" shirt instead of Perfect Bass! Oh well, maybe my kid will want it.
