Hello friends,

I just installed these little pickguards for easy slap and pick technique . I don't know about you , but I love to slap and Wal basses have to much room between the strings and top wood surface. What do you think ?

I don't like it, and I think it is a crime to drill holes on the top of a Wal bass

For the record, I slap all the time on my Wals without any problem.

Ok Wal Mates, this is not just about WAL basses, but this is a good trick to make you Gloss WAL finish (or any other bass) looks like a HOT ROD Show Car Mirror Gloss finish !


Hello,

It's a very easy and fun process, all that you have to do is to buy the following products. In US you'll pay about U$50 for all. Attention, this is just to be used on a Gloss finished bass, not Satin !

The secret is :

Microfiber cloth
Meguiar's Scratch X2.0 , scratch remover
Meguiar's Solo - Cut & Polish Cream 86
Meguiar's Gold Class Carnauba Plus WAX

You just read the instructions but I brief description of the process is :

1) First Cut the microfiber cloth in 3 3"x3"pieces
2) Put some drops of Meguiar's X2.0 and buff it hard in circular motion. X2.0 will eliminate all major scratches left by your nails, slap technique and hard use on the Gloss Varnish .
3) Clean and buff it with a cotton piece.
4) Put some drops of Meguiar's Solo and repeat the process in 1 and 2. But use the 2nd piece of the microfiber cloth.
5) Use the Carnauba WAX, read the instructions .Use the 3rd piece of the microfiber cloth.

Do all this things at least 2 times, to have more fun it's better to do the 2nd time day after ! It will be get tired with all these physical motions ! LOL !

PS : Remove the strings before start.

The previous owner gauged a small furrow in the top of mine by slapping...quite nice wear actually.

Same thing happened on my MKI dated 1983 (that I bought two years ago).
The top of my bass is wenge and it seems that someone has grated some pieces of wood: perhaps the previous owner/s was Terminator or a vampire with long nails...

Anyway, who installed that pickguard asked for a opinion and I gave mine, that's all.

If Electric Wood had chosen to install that pickguard by dafault, I think I would have removed.

I don't need it, and I never ruined my basses by slapping.

To each his own.

Paul installs nothing "by default" unless it's OEM stuff

Anything else you have to request and pay extra for.
