I don't like it, and I think it is a crime to drill holes on the top of a Wal bass
For the record, I slap all the time on my Wals without any problem.
The previous owner gauged a small furrow in the top of mine by slapping...quite nice wear actually.
Same thing happened on my MKI dated 1983 (that I bought two years ago).
The top of my bass is wenge and it seems that someone has grated some pieces of wood: perhaps the previous owner/s was Terminator or a vampire with long nails...
Anyway, who installed that pickguard asked for a opinion and I gave mine, that's all.
If Electric Wood had chosen to install that pickguard by dafault, I think I would have removed.
I don't need it, and I never ruined my basses by slapping.
To each his own.
