Wal Bass Club.

Played my first gig with the Wal Pro IE yesterday. It was a leadership award banquet in a hotel. Very nice. Only one set.

The bass sounded fabulous!
I like the front switch on the off position (cutting mids) with the high freq boost (pick attack?).

Lots of Motown sound. Played with my H9 as a compressor with some varied attack to try to get a vintage vibe. Ran through the EA Micro and EA NL210 V3.

Think I'm topped out at 4 Wals
They all don't get enough love as it is.....so not going to get another......unless I decide to sell the Geddy....but probably not ;)

Well im down to 3 Wals now :bawl:
After talking with Maedros and seeing his pics of his Maple MKI, i seriously considered trading the Geddy for it.
So if you dont know the orig story on the Geddy, it was a former TB'ers bass (Oddio) and i fronted my buddy the $$ for the Geddy, but he couldnt come up with the $$ for the last 2 YEARS!
But i promised him that if i did sell it, he would get first crack at it.
Well put him on the spot a few days ago (thinking i would get another song and dance) and whamo, he came up with the $$
The Geddy now resides a bit north of Toronto and if he ever sells it, i get first crack at buying it back lol
Gonna miss it

Has anyone ever been able to purchase a new circuit board for a Pro?

I got lucky with mine ( I no longer have the bass so no pics, I'm afraid). I bought my fretless Pro1 used and it had an epoxied fingerboard. I contacted Wal (this is late September 1987) to have the epoxy removed and it turned out that at that time I lived close to Ian Waller, so he said "drop it round", which I did. A few days later he called up and said that he's found a board lying around in the workshop and would I like it fitted. "Yes, of course - how much?" 'Nothing - we have no use for them any more." And so it came to be. There is more to this story but I've already written that elsewhere so won't bore you with it again. My guess is that now they are just not available, but you never know...

Steve, you can't tell these stories enough! I've had the pleasure to had to deal with Pete on several occasions.
Always lots of fun and great stories. I really miss him.

So I unofficially joined the club last month. Thanks again Zulu!!!

The result, not surprisingly, is that I am now looking to acquire a Wal 5 string Fretless. I am probably going to put my MTD FL 635, KZ6 with many upgrades and a Modulus Q5, all of which are in great shape, up for sale or trade to be able to get one. If anyone knows anyone who has one they are selling or may be willing to trade for these basses then please let me know.

Oh and can I get a #?

Thanks for the links Tmb! I'm going to hold out for as long as possible for a 5 string fretless(maybe even a 6 string). However I know that I could potentially say to hell with that and get a 4 banger. Definitely looking for a fretless though. My new to me MK3 5 string is getting all of my attention lately but I have songs that I recorded and play a fretless(currently my MTD 635 which is a great bass). The Wal sounds so ridiculously good through my setup that I feel like I should get a Fretless for those songs to simplify my sound levels and tone. It could also just be that I have Wal fever and a bad case of GAS?
