May be a silly question, but how does one tell the difference between rosewood and ebony?

Color is not a good identifier. Seen here are all three. Ric and Jazz both have rosewood.

Morning! Has anyone had to replace the 2 smaller screws in their Wal bridge? I ended up removing the bridge to better install the felt after my gig this weekend. The holes are basically reamed out and too shallow to add wood. they are about 3/4" long so going to try to find a 1" replacement. I’m wondering if anyone knows the screw gauge.

I actually had an incident recently with the bridge screws - which sucked! anyhu, my experience is a bit different than yours since you have to deal with the black poly finish, but here's a link with some useful insights. maybe use the baking soda/superglue trick? that is if you still want to use the factory screws

Yeah is like a weird double drill with the poly finish. Its like a over sized PRE pre drill thru the finish then I imagine a pre drill for actual screw. unfortunately even if I filled it the screw is still pretty short. I figure get a couple that are the same gauge as original but slightly longer like the other bigger screws already in there.

all five screws should be of the same length (as pictured with the gold screws) - strange you have one longer than the other.

His bass is an early '86, so it may still have an '85 and older 7-screw bridge rather than a 5-screw bridge.

A couple of years ago I posted that my 2016 5 string uses longer screws than my 1986 5 string

going by my earlier pic (click the thumbnail) and looking at my stubby fingers....yes it looks like its longer than an inch. i can give you an exact size later today after work. not sure if it'll help, but one thing i found out though is that (at least for my 2002 and 2011) that the bridge screw is the same screw used for the strap pins....when changing my pins to dunlop, i had to pre-drill the hole wider (per instructions with a 7/64 bit)....
