I’d never met a Wal in person.
The guitar player for the band I subbed with last night brought his 30+ year old Wal and let me play it.
It was glorious.
Very bright and articulate and not at all what I expected two big humbuckers to sound like.
If I could ever find one, and have the funds for one, I’d for sure think pretty hard about that.
Very thumbs up.

Wals are very much worth it. They sound so good in just about any situation. I sound great with the XLR directly to the PA, it is a very colored sound already. I play mine most of the time over my old SVT or my 70's Bassman and its just glorious.

I do prefer a good P for those P situations though. The Wal usually puts its stamp all over the band sound - I love that in the right context, but sometimes I just want to sit in the pocket and blend into the mix. This is really hard with my Mk1, it has a very mid focused tone that is always audible in the mix, no matter how I turn the knobs.

I queried Paul on the rocklite boards (for next build), sure enough he says it's between ebony & rosewood in physical properties. I am leaning toward the real ebony board since it's not as restricted as rosewood yet. The real stuff is always better.
8 months + 1 day since the deposit for my current order. That went by quick! Nothing exciting as of now, I asked for a pic of what's in progress so far. Added Dunlop strap locks to the order. The spec sheet is riddled with options.

So toolmybass planted a seed in my head and I decided to do a bit more wrenching. I noticed the E and G string has this timbre the the middle two didn’t, Especially in the neck pickup. I didn’t want to mess with the poles since the first/last time one of the poles shorted and stopped working. This time I just turned them SUPER SLOWLY. Shouldnt just settle when really anything can be fixed if it fully died. I got all the strings to match the timbre of the “good strings” on the neck pickup then matched neck timbre to bridge. The whole bass is a lot more lively. The A string was the pickiest and needed the most raising. Which is what I did to match the timbre all around. Definitely a different animal now and for the good. Been a lot of gremlins in my Wal but I think I got this guy just about right and looking forward to the gig this Saturday.

It’s discontinued that I know. Guess everyone wants lighter, more portable rigs now. But most I know that’s tried this model loves it. Maybe Jim will bring it back one day? Who knows.

They still make a 412 and 610. It seems like the mainstream doesn't like 15's. I personally think its the misconception that they are only for subs and low end. I know its about them Mids baby, lol

I LOVE my Bag End S15d's. Plugged up my Microtubes 900 and Noble Pre to 2 s15ds and 2 s15dxs and lawd haf mercy...made the neighbors impotent.

Here's my rigs I use.
with the cover band I use the walkabout + 210's for most venues.
the Strategy + 212's was from my original band stuff (loud!!!), and anything I do outdoors with cover band too.
my Bass 400 I got when I was 18 and was my main rig for over 22+ years, mainly retired now but I'll still play it a few times a year.
