Sure but for those 'money gigs' I always leave my Wal at home and prefer other (more allround) basses. A Wal will always sound distinct (besides some extreme sub low settings) and that it's beauty and power but you don't want that all the time.

Yeah that $30 p bass body with some Schaller pickups and a wal pro neck bolted to it, that the guy is trying to get 10k for? because it’s “rare” ? just ridiculous

I play in a casino band all over the NW. It's all top-40 '70's-modern day, and just about all I use is my Wals. They sound especially great for the 'synth bass' music, and the B string of the fivers can hit like an 808.
I'm not a knob twiddler, my standard setting is about 7/down on the front tone knob, 8/down on the rear tone knob, centered mix knob, and I just vary my hand plucking positions for the songs.
For slap songs all I do is pull up on the pic attack, that gives me the contour.
Just curious: Did you get an actual acknowledgement that you're on the list to be notified? Or are you just presuming you are because you sent Paul the email saying "Put me on the list!" ?
I ask because I sent Paul a "Put me on the list!" email several months ago and have not received any acknowledgement. Which is fine, I'm not in any hurry, and frankly if Paul suddenly said "Okay, the queue has opened up, I can have your new bass ready in ~24 months, send me a 50% deposit now" I'd probably hem and haw and postpone. I'm counting on Wal taking as long to clear their books as it'll take me to save up some spare coin!
To be officially on the list, Paul will email and confirm he added your name. A buddy of mine just shared his email with me and it specifically stated he was added to the waitlist.....As far as this waitlist.....it shouldn't be confused with an actual order queue.
I suppose the difference from an order queue and being on the "waitlist".....being on the order queue requires a deposit and locks down a rate more or less but being on the wishlist doesn't.....so after your name is picked to be queue'd in, you'll be quoted whatever the build prices are during that time.....that person could either pass on being added if the cost is too much (then Paul goes down the list to the next person) or move forward with being added on to the queue and put down money. I'm sure he'll have the same pay schedule..... a small deposit to secure the build....a second payment after the neck is processed.....then a final payment before delivery. (So you don't have to have all the funds available when he emails you to put you on the queue).
Wait times are crazy now. Good luck to those on the list! It'll be worth the wait!

Sorry if this is repetitive… I know I’ve seen it before but I can’t find it now. Do you recall how much $ you have to put down at each phase of the process? And what do I have to have decided when I hand over the first payment? The MK model or the number of strings or finish? I think the schedule used to be on the site but I can’t find it. Thanks!! I got word from Paul a few weeks ago that I’m on the list to be on the list.
Not sure if these are current numbers, but going by past experience:
₤1000 acceptance of quote puts in you in the queue - quoted lead time begins
6 months after initial deposit
₤1000 second payment before processing of neck. this phase, model and number of strings needs to be decided and final - cannot be changed.
during this time, the options chosen can change within reason, depending what stage the bass is in at the moment.
i.e. type of facing, hardware choice, finish options-headstock, body...etc......
my first build i think i might of had 3-4 different drafts of the invoice since i kept adding options during the build process....lol
final payment is required prior to shipping.....also you're not limited to just 3 payments....if you want to do 1 full payment or multiple payments along the way, you could do that too.

My experience also. I’m even using a fretless and loving it for (nearly) everything.
I have also set my pick attack for that modern bite when needed.
Been really enjoying my Mk. 1 past month and a half. I know all the newer Wal's have 4 internal trimpots, mine only has two - I've been looking for answers to what they do to no avail. Hopefully one adjusts the pick attack. (See pic)
Second, does anyone here have spare electronics cavity plate screws, or is this something I need to order directly from Electric Wood? (I imagine the size is not readily available in the states). A few of mine have stripped beyond salvageability.

Trim pot closest to the battery should be master volume and the other trim pot should be pick attack.

everything except for the German tuners
Agreed, played in wedding/covers bands and never found a song that my Mk 1 couldn’t provide a very useable tone for.
