Here's the guy!!! N° 2225 fretted 4 string in his previous house, didn't shot any new pics. Tomorrow a little trip to the luthier for a complete new set up and overall check

If I were you, I would just hang tight and keep looking. Wals don't seem to be nearly as rare in the classifieds as they may have been in the past. I'm sure you are pumped (as was I when I was looking), but I waited the extra time and scored one that was exactly what I was looking for. I was fortunate enough also in that the seller was local, so I was able to go over to his place and try it out first to be sure that I was going to be happy.

My olive ash Wal actually came with a fretted ebony neck. There is a miniscule difference in the upper midrange and lower midrange, however it is nothing that can't be changed very easily with a very slight tweak to the EQ. It's not different enough that you would ever notice in a band setting.

I just got my preamp back from Paul last week. SO MUCH BETTER! I didn't realize that the pre was blowing up a lot of the high mids. When I put the pre back in, I was delighted to hear the difference. :bassist:

All my Wals have the unique Wal sound. The differences are subtle...

Maple more open and a bit brighter than Shedua on my fretted basses. Same with the Sycamore compared to my Walnut with the fretlesses. And the Mark IIs have more booty than the Mark IIIs, but the difference isn't huge and the improvement in ergonomics and lighter weight of the Mark IIIs make up for the difference.

Very true, the long build time makes it easier, although the $8-900 in import fees is what's a killer. I've been wanting to order a MkIII 4 string fretted, and may get around to that this summer.
But for a fretless I'd like to find an old Pro, especially a single pickup model. They're alot cheaper, and I can't justify the cost of a Custom series fretless for something I'll use sparingly.

Awww..... I was making a run for that one too back in sept/oct. I had the scratch and we were set to go, but I got busy at work and then birth of my little one so I became MIA. When I touched "bass" with him again to finalize everything he had said he had sold it to a guy in the Netherlands :bawl:
