Warmoth Owners Club!!

I'll be taking delivery of my Warmoth body today. I'm still torn on exactly what direction to take it moving forward, but maybe a thread full of people who have been there and done that can provide some useful info and opinions.

The body is a short scale G4 in swamp ash. My plan is to do a Tru-Oil finish on the body. Where I'm hung up is the direction to take the neck. I ordered the body only at first because I wanted to see what affect the Tru-Oil has on the look of the wood. I've had a surprisingly hard time finding anything online showing someone applying Tru-Oil to swamp ash without any sort of stain.

The two options I'm considering are something sort of standard looking with a flame or birdseye maple neck and board, black fret marker dots, and chrome hardware; or something more unique/boutique looking with a wenge neck and ebony board, no face fret markers, and black hardware.

I've leaned heavily toward wenge/ebony from the beginning because I really love the look of the dark neck and headstock. I'm just not totally sure how well that dark neck is going to pair with a lighter natural finish wood body.

Here's a guitar body I found - lightly roasted swamp ash w tru-oil. The guy who finished it hit it with a torch to enhance the grain but no staining...

+1 on a roasted neck looking good with it. Or even just maple... Maybe a zebrawood fretboard?

Padouk sounds and feels great but warning.
It’s kind of heavy...Just take that note. I built two with that neck and didn’t keep either one.

This is one of my main players. It's a one piece Koa body that originally had an all maple neck. It was a bit too aggressive for my taste so I dropped in this Warmoth Padauk neck with ebony FB. It really warmed up the tone and it plays beautifully. I don't notice any weight factor but the body isn't lightweight so it's a non-issue for me. Loaded with Aero I's, passive. Mids sound rich and solid and I've had people ask me how I got a Jazz to sound so "round". I'm not much for bright and zingy and this was a perfect choice for this bass.

P.S. The control plate is also Padauk.

Clear pickguards are my favourite also, I wish they would add them to production.. (I tried cutting plexi and it is much harder to do clean than to do non-transparent). It also depends if plexiglass is casted or not. Casted plexi is easier to cleanly cut. Maybe that could be the reason Warmoth do not offer them (???) I'm no expert in this field but I guess that clear ones would be more labour intensive.

I’ve been considering a Warmoth build for a while now. What’s everyone’s favorite finish? I’m thinking of building a bass that’s inspired by the Modulus Flea Basses (using a graphite neck from Status), and was debating between a flake/sparkle finish (such as black holo flake) which stays true to the Modulus Flea style, but I also like the idea of a quilted maple top with Aquamarine Dye

I cannot belive, holowflake + status neck.... I am thinking about that combination for quite some time now. It would be gorgeus with gold hardware and cream pups like Dimarzio Model J...
Please keep us posted if you go that route!!!

I’m so bad...I like to stain them myself and leave them a little rough.
