Are all Fortress One basses made of flamed maple?

I am thinking about buying a 1994 model. The seller has sent me some photos and the bass looks very nice but it seems to be finished in black/brown satin or something like that.

No gloss finish but no trace of flames in the maple either.

Not every maple-body Fortress One has pronounced flame. Mine has more flame on the reverse side than the front - and I like it that way.

There were a also few "Fortress R&B" basses made with Ash bodies. These often have the "Fortress One" truss rod cover. These are pretty rare, I believe they are all 4-string p/j configuration.

Many are ash. I think this one I am selling here is ash as well based on weight and website specs. Ash can have lots of figuring but different from falming.

Anything pre 1996 is particularly great. I have a 1993 maple. No flame but a hind of birdseye. Tone for days. Great basses.

PM me if you need more info.

I thought only the Flashback and R&B versions were Ash?

edit: The one you've got listed in the classifieds looks like a Maple body to me. The 3-piece bodies are less likely to be flamed out than the 2-piece bodies.

You are correct. My bad. Would also explain my my Flashback is 2X the weight.

??? Ash weighs less than maple. Your flashback is heavy because it has the massive 2Tek bridge.

What does R&B mean?

I only knew the One, the Masterman and the Flashback.

R&B = rhythm & blues. The Fortress R&B has an ash body with passive electronics and P/J pickups, designed for a more "traditional" sound (i.e. vintage F------). They made very few of these. If anyone has one, please post pics here! I envy you!

Here is my fortress. Not the best picture:
