Was my pawn shop impulse purchase worthwhile?

I haven’t gotten the CSB-380 yet. It is supposed to arrive tomorrow. I bought it because I picked up a 32” scale 4-string in a music shop a couple of weeks ago and it just felt fantastic.
Excellent--enjoy! And show us a pic when you get it! The 32" scale has a Goldilocks quality (no too long, not too short). And I like the relative lack of neck taper and closer string spacing at the bridge on the CSBs--I find it very comfortable and ergonomic. (But my other bass is a Hofner, so I've developed some unusual preferences. The benefit is that they cut down on GAS; it's hard to find basses that tick all the boxes for me.)

Im glad you have started breaking in your better half to the reality of the talkbassers life ... unending GAS and frequent furtive purchases!
SON: “I’m kinda worried about this marriage thing. Any advice?”
FATHER: “Yes! Disappoint her early and often. You need to be yourself right up front. It won’t go well for you if you just surprise her with it later.”

I found this Ibanez a couple of hours ago in a pawn shop near my house (pics below). I didn’t need it, as I just started learning to play a few weeks ago, already have a couple of 4-strings, and was not planning to play 5-string, but... it felt good and has a pretty neck that’s very straight with just a whisper of relief, the frets are great, action is surprisingly low with no buzzing, etc. It was priced at $400, but just for the hell of it, I put $200 in cash on the counter and told the owner that was all it was worth to me, and he shook my hand and said “Enjoy it in good health!” Did I buy something worthwhile? I hope so, because walking into the house with the third bass I bought in four weeks definitely seems to have caught my wife’s attention!
EDIT: I just weighed this bass and I am surprised to say that it is well under 6lbs! That is significantly less than my P-Lyte Deluxe.
CORRECTION: Postal scale was WAY off! Just put it on a calibrated digital scale and it weighs 7lbs 12ozs. Still feels pretty light to me!

Nice early Ergodyne, with that wenge/bubinga neck...sweet score!

My wife of nearly 18 years always accuses me of pulling a bait-and-switch on her. She married a "stable" engineering student with "stable" career prospects; now she's the wife of a musician and self-employed engineering consultant. There's nothing "stable" about either of those things.

Don't take this wrong way, but you should probably decide pretty quickly whether you're more interested in playing bass or collecting basses. If the former, settle down and spend just about all your spare time in your practice room with your favorite instrument, and stay away from music shops of any kind. If the latter, do the opposite.

Excellent advice. I'm gonna go with door #1: Hang out in the woodshed and try to avoid the music shops!
