Way huge Pork and Pickle

It IS a cool device and I'm happy with mine, but in every single case, I prefer the analog versions of the pedals it mimics. However, if you want one box with a lot of choices rather than chasing the ultimate analog pedal, you can do far worse than the Aftershock.

Yep agree with you one that one... if I Didn’t have the analog pedals and had the time to program what I wanted, I dare say I’d never go past the aftershock though. It would definitely do a good job.

Anyone try the Pork and Pickle on 18v? I love the sound/response/headroom of the Pork Loin on 18v - not sure if I should switch over to this (free up some room on my board), or just find a way to add the Russian Pickle MKIII instead.
I'd love to know the answer to this, and I'm particularly curious to see if it'll work for the Pickle side (I'm using mine for the fuzz, not so much the OD), but I don't want to risk blowing mine up to find out.

I'm also curious if the pedal could be modded to replace the fuzz/OD switch with a blend pot to pan between the two different clipping circuits rather than picking one or the other, similar to the Voice pot inside the regular Swollen Pickle.

Hej guys,

got one here in front of me in Berlin - really loving the tones I can get but am not sure if my unit is faulty:

When I turn the clean blend to full on clockwise and the clean tone full on counter clockwise I get a farty E- and sometimes A- string. Also the input seems to be really hot but I'm only playing it with passive P and JJs. Drive is set to minimum and it does not come from the drive engine as it only shows when the clean is blent in. Will make a recording soon. Does anyone have the same problem?

What you are reporting sounds like the exact same issue others (including me) have had with the Pork Loin. If correct, it's a headroom issue with the clean pre-amp. Running the Pork Loin at 18v totally fixes it, but I have no idea whether the same would be safe with the P&P or whether there are long term thermal wear issues doing it on the PL. This is very useful info, because my main interest in the P&P was that 'for bass' implied to me that they'd addressed this - Dunlop are aware of the problem and described it to me as 'not uncommon'. Since the clean pre operates for both OD circuits, it's a deal breaker, which is a drag to say the least because the PL is my main dirt sound and the option of adding a Sovtek style Muff without adding any footprint was very appealing. Back to the drawing board.

Oh my, thanks for the info! Since this is my first Way Huge pedal is was totally unaware of that problem.

To clarify, this is the sound I'm getting and not liking. Sounds like I'm clipping the input of my recording interface, but I'm not!

Played with a passive Duesenberg Triton, getting the same results with a Fender Jazz.

Yup - that sounds like the issue. It affects the lower strings and doesn't matter if you are active or passive too, which is the same. I'm not familiar with the Dusenberg, but I got it with a Stingray and a Jazz. If you search on this forum, somebody has posted clips of the Pork Loin at 9 and 18v for comparison. The original Pork Loin was sold as a guitar pedal 'popular with bassists'. This is sold as a bass pedal, so no excuses really. I assume you bought it new, so you should be able to get a refund. Might be worth raising this with Dunlop customer support too.

Actually, both OD and Fuzz are used in different places on the opening 3 tunes. The Sly&Family (2nd tune) is OD in stereo and Fuzz in the left speaker.
Sales bs aside, the pedal is great. Have done a bunch of OD reviews, this one is actually going on MY board. As i mention in the video, the old guitar ones are unuseable for me in a live setting, so having that Clean Blend and that contour control (Clean Tone) there's loads of bottom that's not present on the old guitar versions. So that alone, combined with the value of getting both sounds in one box, It's a no brainer to me.

Many times, when a company does a bass-adaptation of an existing circuit, they seem watered down and less radical. This thing is plenty radical.lol

You do not seem to have this issue though, or did you run this at 18V?

I have just tried it at 12V for a short time and I could hear a little difference. Unfortunately not enough though and I do not have 18V lying around.

Interesting. I was just about to buy a P&P, but this issue has definitely scared me away for now.

I’d definitely check the internal pots first (forgot to mention that), but this made no difference on my PL. lm hoping I can get to try one in store before I rule it out (they aren’t on the shelf in the UK yet) because the footprint really is a win.

Same issue...sent it back.

Way Huge needs to be made aware of this thread. I am definitely a person whose business they lost. I was literally ready to press the buy button but something told me to look here first and see what people were saying about the P&P. After reading about the clean headroom issue, there is no way in hell I'd buy this pedal without a corporate statement from Way Huge saying they are not only aware of the problem, but that it's been fixed.

Dont hold your breath. Lots of people had this issue with the PL, and that was never addressed.

Sorry for playing devil's advocate here but - setting the pedal like this seems to me that it would not be very useful.
Am I correct in assuming that these settings would totally pull out any overdrive or fuzz and roll the treble all the way off? This seems like a dubby type sound that one could easily get without the pedal. Or am I misunderstanding this?

i´m in the same boat, the P&P was on top of my wish-list, but the cons vs pro won.

Would be great if someone from WayHuge would join the discussion here ...

Question - I have 2 Pork Loins, both modded ala JohnK, and have never had the problem being mentioned here. They are my absolute favorite low gain OD on bass, beating out hand made boutique builds by respected TB folk. Do you think the mod prevents the “farting out” issue, and if so, would the P&P benefit from the mod?

Just curious, I have no electrical engineering knowledge whatsoever, save for how to do a basic solder job.
