I just finished reading "I Shall Wear Midnight" - the 38th novel in the Discworld series by Terry Pratchett.

I can't say enought good things about this book - it was a fantastic read.

The best paper I ever wrote was centered largely around this book.

I'm about 1/2 way through it so far. Quite the read at this point. Last book on the list was "I'll Sleep When I'm Dead: The Dirty Life and Times of Warren Zevon." That was an interesting read, as well.

A little over two-thirds of the way through my first read of:

Terry Brook's Running With The Deamon. It was a slow start and for a while I was worried about Terry Brooks' writing qualities sinking back to the first Shannara book but my worries were gone by page 150.

Directed by Tim Burton, no less.

I just re-read a few Stephen King classics and enjoyed them again - Insomnia, Hearts in Atlantis and Bag of Bones. The best King re-reads are The Stand and the whole Dark Tower series. I'm squeamy about re-reading IT and 'Salem's Lot for some reason. I may do another run at The Shining.

I read the Steve Hamilton Alex McKnight series and liked them a lot....I'm a big mystery and thriller series reader. But you always run out and then have to wait for the author to ante up the next one.

Just got my son the ANABASIS by Xenophon. it is the story of Greek mercenaries who decide to fight on the side of Cyrus in an unsuccessful attempt to take the throne of the Persian empire and have to fight their way back out of Persia to get home.

I remember reading it when I was his age (15 or so)...ah, the good old days, when teachers actually made you read classic books.

anyway, it was a hell of a good read and I hope (but don't expect) he will enjoy it.
