What Bass accessory, that doesn't already exist, needs to be invented?

I would love that, but I can't see any way around inherent delays. But man, make something like that happen and I'll bet it sells through the roof.

The latency you'd get would be somewhere in the realm of 100 ms or less on a good connection, so that's at most 100 milliseconds between me sending you my audio and you receiving it. That doesn't factor in any latency at the system level or in your home network (e.g. wifi might be slower).

I feel like this product wouldn't work right now, but in 10 years when most of us have gigabit connections and whatnot it might.

You could compress the audio before sending to avoid bottlenecking the network but that means you need a decently powerful computer to avoid more delays. The computer would have to compress the audio before sending off through the internet basically.

I think a clip on cupholder would be revolutionary

I think it would be nice to see a bass / amp combined system that lets you control your amp knobs or settings from your bass guitar using a special wire hookup. You could have the amp power the bass circuitry as well if it needs any, so no need for batteries.

The problem would be that it goes against standards used currently, so you'd have to probably open source the cable attachment and system to get amp manufacturers to start using it.

I think designing the cable system to work with existing amps would be doable though. Basically you'd have the bass fall back on some passive operation mode if the amp is not compatible with the amp control system. I'd keep the plugs mostly the same, but with some extra connectors on it for the control system.
 
For a minute, I thought it would be nice to have a pedal that automatically calculates exactly how much the band is out of tune, and picks the perfect bass note to compensate. But then I had that Monkey-Touch-Monolith-Moment and realized that such a device already exists: the Fretless Bass!!

I like your suggestions. I suspect you could go far towards capturing the upright vibe with just the Moog string damping effect plus careful string choice, technique and eq.

I do want an Ebow with bass string spacing, and I'd be intrigued by a Moog bass with infinite sustain options. It might require a bit of technique and practice to sort that out, whereas the Ebow is fairly simple and I'm used to it on guitar.

The nick Whizmoon already constructed an infinite sustainer for bass in 2001. Check out the nick around here. Of course, my "invention" or suggestion for invention, is that the opposite of totally stopping the string, is just by a switch, there should be option with a switch for endless sustain as well. My idea is worked on by Whizmoon as we speak. However, as most guitar sustainers has one 9v battery, the Moog guitar is driven by a huge wire and current, and I doubt that moving thick bass strings to infinite sustain would require much more power than a single 9v battery. Same for the shortening of decay. But of course, on "my" instrument you should be able to choose between both, endless sustain, or shorter sustain at the flick of a switch.

Yes, and I said so too, in earlier post, but I think it went over most peoples head, because it was too elaborate. I'd skip the polyphonic sustain on bass though. The Moog sustain systems best kept secret is the reverse of the sustain, making strings oscillating with a shorter decay, almost stops immediately, then you don't have to use foam or damping devices to emulate acoustic upright bass.

No but there could be kinetic charging of batteries. Sensors of movement. Just like you load up watches in the old days. And the energy produced by the strings. Play long enough, and charge your batteries. Gives you some incentive to both practice and play.
