What Bass accessory, that doesn't already exist, needs to be invented?

That is actually your foot kicking his ac plug out of the socket, wait no, that's the Master on/off. Sorry.
I wonder if a small solar charger would provide enough juice. This would be great, I wouldn't have to remember to unplug my active bass.

Although we could sell them to the guitar player at a very high profit margin....hmmmm...

I like your suggestions. I suspect you could go far towards capturing the upright vibe with just the Moog string damping effect plus careful string choice, technique and eq.
I do want an Ebow with bass string spacing, and I'd be intrigued by a Moog bass with infinite sustain options. It might require a bit of technique and practice to sort that out, whereas the Ebow is fairly simple and I'm used to it on guitar.

Modular bass. Interchangeable everything on the fly. Go from fretted to fretless from p bass neck to jazz neck to Ibanez SR neck quickly with some sort of quick release contraption. Quick release loaded pickguard which can be swaped with others to give you different pickup configuration, eq, go from soapbar to humbucker to p to pj to j back to soapbar. Active to passive, 9 volt to 18 volt. Mono to stereo output. Etc. Even with the bridge go from 4 to 5 to 6 string with the help of removable spacers in the neck pocket. And a removable quick release bridge.

Sheesh - 6 pages of ideas and almost none of them are serious or have already been done. The auto tuning guitar was done by Gibson just recently wasn't it? And someone else, I think. Servos on the tuners.

I'll improve upon the retractable fret idea: A slider on the top of the neck, where it's fretted on one side of it and fretless on the other. So, for example, I could engage it down to the 12th fret (where it would be fretless above and fretted below) for one song, and slide down to 0 (all fretless) for the next song.
