What bass players do you think aren't mentioned enough?

Almost no one ever talks about most of us.

So many, but here’s a few diverse players that are rarely mention.

Peter Cetera - I’m floored this great is rarely mentioned.

Laura Lee - I know. But her/bands simplicity is mesmerizing, and there’s no room for one sloppy or wrong note in their style.

Barry Oakley - how can you play bass for the best damn band in America, and never be mentioned?

All James Brown’s bass players - the inventors of The Groove

David Hood - Duck Dunn - Carole Kaye - James - they set the high-bar we have all been trying to achieve. But they did it 50 years ago.

Joe Dart - where technique meets soul, and the joy just pours out. Every time I listen to the guy, he makes my heart smile. Does it get any better?

What bass players do you feel like aren't brought up enough or deserve more credit and why?

For me, it's Peter Hook. Obviously not the least known bass player ever but he's rarely ever brought up and I don't feel like he gets enough credit as a bass player or as a melody writer.

Jerry Scheff, Jason's dad, Elvis's long time bass player, and a session guy who played on the L.A. Woman album. (Love Her Madly and Riders on the Storm come immediately to mind)

I second Mars Cowling and Dee Murray.

Joe Osborn, of course . . . Largely unknown outside of these here parts.

George McArdle of Little River Band. Wonderfully melodic and tasteful lines.

I’m going to toss two of my faves into the thread, Bruce Hall and John McVie. Neither real flashy but super solid.

oh, one more postpunk, Michael Lachowski, hardly mentioned anymore but when I saw him (them, Pylon) he was playing an Aria through a Peavey MKIV. An example of the independent cool bass concept of the 80s

What bass players aren't mentioned enough? Electric bass players, upright bass players, and fretless bass players. The bass players that get sufficient attention are the synth bass players.

In the other sense of answering, I offer the following: Abraham Laboriel.
