Since I mostly drink homebrews, I'm fine with a 6-12 pack of a given brand and style. I already have a 12 pack of Boulevard's Oktoberfest and will get a 6 of Schell's Oktoberfest and call it good. I also don't drink more than a beer a day.

Very cool. I don't drink it very often, but it's a nice treat from time to time. Kasteel brune and Nostredamus are two other rare treats for me.

No, not really.
My wife and I will finish off a 6pack in a day, not every day mind you. Well, maybe almost every day. Except on the weekends when its a 12pack.
I'd love to drink more, but I tend to only have about 7-8 beers a week. As tiny as I am, a nice high gravity beer can get me plenty buzzed. Any more than my 8 per week and I put weight on my gut quick and start to feel very sluggish on the road bike. Maybe I burned up too much in college, but these days I get hung over very easily.

Yes, and they're not cheap! $8.60 a 6er for Buffalo Bills Pumpkin Ale. Good stuff!
Where are you located? And by "CHEAP 6er" I take it youre talking about the less expensive good brew? I associate "Cheap 6er" with Bud Light and that ilk, generally around $4.99 or so here, but there is cheaper. One can get crappy beer like Natty Ice or Miller Hi-Life for abour $7.99 a 12pack. The Vons by my house is the closest source for decent beer, starting at $6.99 a 6pack (on sale) up to $9.99 for really good microbrews.
Just tried a room temp Hoptober last night and thought it tasted great! I'd love to taste a properly chilled one sometime.
I'm very lucky that I live in an area with a low cost of living. I can generally get most types of beer, minus the super strong and/or hoppy types for $7.99 or less. I don't always get the brand I want, but I can almost always find the types of beer I like in brands I can tolerate.
$7.99-$8.99 is about the average price of a good 6pack on sale at the Vons near my house. Liquor stores are usually a little more expensive, and BevMo! usually has good prices, but I dont go there often as there isnt one too close to where I live.
I just sampled my homebrew Imperial Pumpkin Pie (1.090) after 6 days fermenting. It tasted like pumpkin pie going into the fermentor, now it's significantly less pumpkin-y 
To be expected, though. It tastes great though, just not what I expected. I might re-spice it, and I'm considering racking it onto some more roasted pumpkin after two weeks in primary.
Also I recently started opening bottles of a 1.080 porter that is knocking my socks off. One of my best recipes yet.

7.99 us about average price, 8.99 being an upper end premium craft beer, obviously more for some of the Belgian beers and high gravity. From time to time, New Belgium, Sam Adams, Boulevard, (local) Empyrian, and a few others will have 5.99-6.99 6ers on sale at local grocery shops. When it hits that price, I'll gladly grab some of those and stock up!!!
Good to know beer prices in middle America arent too far from what we pay here on the West Coast.

I'll look, although I'm not sure if we get Stone Brewing.
Our local IPA is about $8.99-9.99 due to the high hop content. I think our brewpubs sell better IPAs, but none of them are distributing anything other than the occasional premium 750ml high gravity beer.
A big bottle of Double Bastard ran me $13..... I couldn't imagine how much a 6pk would cost me.
And for the record, there is nothing pale about Stone's Pale Ale
I think this is one of my favorites, sadly it is only seasonal
I really dig Wacko. It's almost like flavored water. It's a really nice 'after yard work' beer.
