My guitar player and I went to Atlanta today and I stocked up on some doppelbocks and a couple of stouts for a start on the winter. He bought some outrageously expensive scotch. Here is a pic of this haul. I plan to get some more stouts and porters on the next run, but there is actually a decent beer selection here in Columbus, GA.

Ive got a nice cold Fat Tire awaiting me at home, to sip while I begin a new painting, and my outline for the Next Big Indie Hit of the decade.

Think, 1 part American Beauty, 1 part Chasing Amy, and 1 part Brokeback Mountain.
Add a little spicy intellect, some drama, shake, and garnish with a martini olive.

Spirit Awards 2012 here I come!

I love Halloween time, and am in search of Buffalo Bills Pumpkin Ale. I tried some last year, and just loved the stuff! Safeway doesn't have it (like last year), but I just found out Freddy's does.

I tried Blue Moon Pumpkin Ale, but don't like it at all.

I just did a "skunking" experiment with a couple bottles of moosehead - I had to get rid of them before my first batch of beer finishes up - an all-grain pumpkin ale. Mind you, I did this batch with my uncles, who have been doing this a while, I was mostly just the dishwasher.

Anyway, I left one bottle out in the sunlight all afternoon, and the other in the fridge, then before leaving for clas sI put that bottle back in t he fridge. Once I opened up the skunky bottle the smell (and flavour) were DEFINITELY bad. It was worth doing.

Staples

Keith's Pale and Red
Sleeman Original Draught and Honey Brown
Abbot's
Rickard's Red

Favs atm

Mill St.Tankhouse
Sam Adam's Winter Lager
Buzz - interesting flavor made from hemp

Used to like Innus & Gunn but they skunk too easily in the store and you can't convince the store to put them in the shade or the brewery to used anything other than clear bottles sigh...

Edit: Chillkoot beer in whitehorse yukon makes some great stuff. They didn't start out so good but they got straightened out and placed in the top 10 in detriot years ago. Great beer!

Thats the problem with good seasonal beers, theyre only around for a few months (so you gotta stock up and make them last!).

I used to think that way, but it allows me to run out and switch up before I tire myself of a certain style. I welcome a change in beers with the changes of seasons. As much as I like Oktoberfests in the fall, I'll take the light and thirst quenching summer beers.

The only thing I don't like about the "new" seasonals is how ready they are to ship them out. It's still hot here and I'd like a few more summer beers (so I'm stocking up on the remaining few summer drinks I can find) before I move on to the fall and winter stuff.

We've got our summer beers down to $6 a sixer down from $8, $9 ,or $10, so that's helping a bit too.

Sure, switching things up is cool, but I already do plenty of that. I dont stick to buying beer from just one brewer over the course of a year. On occasions when there are several good seasonal beers out at once, you may not have gotten enough of one of them before the season is over and that brew is out of stock.
