What beer are you drinking (or rating) II: second bottle

Where are you located? And by "CHEAP 6er" I take it youre talking about the less expensive good brew? I associate "Cheap 6er" with Bud Light and that ilk, generally around $4.99 or so here, but there is cheaper. One can get crappy beer like Natty Ice or Miller Hi-Life for abour $7.99 a 12pack. The Vons by my house is the closest source for decent beer, starting at $6.99 a 6pack (on sale) up to $9.99 for really good microbrews.

nope, I mean a sixer of laker (aka virtually undrinkable piss) is about $7.95 last time I checked for a 6er. Lakeport (prettymuch the same) is $8 something. Bud lite (aka, pricey unddrinkable piss) is listed at $11 prettymuch, but on sale at $10 for a sixer. Most imports (e.g. corona and heineken) are about $2 a bottle. The GOOD stuff is generally about $1.50-$2 per bottle, regardless of how many you get, but the distribution generally isn't good for the local microbrews, so it's either mill st. or red cap for me more often than not.

Here in Ontario, Canada, the prices are a bit backwards, and so is the beer industry - the brewer's retail inc. - which runs the beer store - is owned by anheuser busch inbev, molson-coors, and sapporo - who bought out/merged with labatt's, molson, and sleeman, respectively. The minimum pricing is government set, which is constantly being lobbied to be risen by the bigger breweries, but the rest of the pricing is brewery set.

Flying Dog "Dogtoberfest" - yuck. Not sure I'll buy another FD, even as a single.
Heavy Seas "Prosit" Imperial Octoberfest - ok, not as good as other bomber seasonals (belgium, Irish lager, and barleywine ones).

Agreed on Prosit. I'm enjoying the Ayinger Marzen and Sam Adams Octoberfests this year. I tried the Magic Hat "Hex" and didn't really care for it. I tried 3 out of the sixer just to give it a fair shake and it just didn't do it for me.

I further concur with you on Flying Dog in general. I haven't tried Dogtoberfest but all their others I've tried have just been mediocre for me. YMMV

Used to like Sam Adams' Oktoberfest, but Boulevard and Shell's Oktoberfest are so much deeper and maltier.

I had a locally brewed Oktoberfest by Empyrian that reminded me a lot of Warsteiner. I'll be picking up a 6er of that for sure. I can usually get this one for 5.99-6.99 depending on the store.

I also tried Cave Creek's chili beer last night. Yowza, that's a spicy beer.

Great minds taste alike.

I am a fan of marzen style beers but many are very average. My favs are Great Lake Brewing Co. Octoberfest and Left Hand's (which I can't find almost anywhere).

OMG! Trying to wrap my palate around this one. It has that New Belgium Ranger grapefruit-ish vibe times a million! Aftertaste is kind of bitter. A little too close to what I remember of Guinness. I'll see if it can it win me over in 24 ounces. ;)

and, for some mysterious reason, I'm feeling kinda sleepy...

Last week I worked on the Duck-Rabbit schwarzbier. Very flavorful and thick. I really want to try their doppelbock, Duck-Rabbator, but I can't find it anywhere. Bummer. Last night I had a couple of the Hooker imperial porters, which is quickly becoming my favorite porter. I have some more interesting ones waiting for me, if I can just pace myself....:D
