In the late 80's, my wife and I left grad school with three kids, moving from the SF Bay Area to Mid-Michigan. Having some money for a change, I was resolved to buy a Fender Jazz Bass. I found the bass shown in my avatar in a trailer park for sale by a guy who had picked it up in a pawn shop in Flint. I got the bass for $275.

The bass was a '62, but had the frets removed, the body stripped, the neck bowed with a non-functional truss, and a non-functional bridge pup. It was a project.

I took the bass to Brian Galloup at the Guitar Hospital in Big Rapids. Brian restored it as best we could figure for that point in time with a nitro refin. The truss issue turned out to just be a stripped nut (easily replaced). I fixed the bridge pup initially in my lab at work, but it failed a few years later and was ultimately replaced by a Fralin pup, which is a whole other story.

Anyhow, the bass weighs about 8 pounds, rings like a bell, and quickly became a mainstay; so that even my by then 4 kids became attached to it. At that point in time, we were into the kids shows and the Black Stallion was one of the favorites. There is some discussion early in the movie about an effigy called Bucephalus, which was Alexander the Great's horse. Because the stallion was black and the bass was black, the kids named the bass Bucephalus. However, not having any internet and no access to the history, I misspelled the name as Bucephylus.

I still have the bass; it is still a mainstay, and that is my TB name.

That's my story and I'm stickin' to it.

(i fish for steelhead)2 too or also, flyfish with`spey' or two-handed salmon rods as would be proper UK terminoligy(Spey) is the River Spey,,,yaddayadda,,

i originally utilised `Hammer' for`chatrooms'after the `Yellow Hammer' steelhead fly originated on the Rogue River by Al Knudsen in the 30's(yeah it=my `webness' started when i was addicted to fishing) and other members of `westfly' utilised names like`grey ghost' green butt skunk etc. ya had to be`catty' to know i was referencing the Rogue(river) some huge all yellow mayflys hatch in spring(gee are we off topic far enough yet?:help:

but people always seemed to take it wrong(Hammer) so steelhead ~also~ means when i see fit to`go' i go fish the river i've fished for 50 years only know it's all about grabbing a slice of what's left and hopefully i won't get interupted more than 37 times in 2 hours(i'm exagerating of course but compared when i was a kid with a can of worms it can feel that way) and could SEE without glasses(witch i left out in the shop darn it!

so hey!,,i'm grabbing my bass and am gonna go practice!=i AINT! bored:D PEACE!:D:D:D

Well my username started out as deadkennedys1105 then it go shortened to deadkenndys1105 because of a character limit and for some reason stuck. I recently started using dk1105 because is shorter there for easier to tell other people and I got tired of having to explain why kennedys is misspelled or explaining it to people who don't know who the dead kennedys are.
