What happened to Hadrien Feraud?!

Oh sure, I see what you mean. That doesn't change the fact that I REALLY like what Hadrien's done since his departure. Had he not left, I'm not sure I'd have heard him on the same tracks or with the same artists. As a listener, it's worked out for me. Not that he's struggling but maybe things would have been better if he had been able to stay on? That's something we can't know for sure though.

I don't know if he had an "exclusive" contract meaning he couldn't play with anyone else while he was playing with John.

Not exactly sure when he got the boot (sometime in 2008 I'm guessing?) but his work with the Eddie Brown band is sick.

Then there's Downside Up with Gregory Privat, Niccolas Viccaro, and Stephane Guillaume which is just awesome.



That was the first time I was able to immediately tell it was Hadrien playing. That made me pretty happy to be honest.

In my book, all of that stuff however small-time is more enjoyable than his work with Mclaughlin, not that I think it's terrible or anything. Obviously, that's just my take on it. I would definitely like to hear him on more actual albums though. Either way, looking forward to his sophomore release and whatever else he's involved in.

What I find interesting about this clip is how deep a pocket the keyboard player and the drummer create...now throw a cat like Will Howard or other groove monstrosities in there on bass and that would be truly sick.

I'd have a ton of fun but it'd be almost strictly meat n' potatoes, lol. I think I can groove but can't lay down a nice solo yet, call and response trips me up, and extensive but tasteful fills are beyond me, at least for now.

For me, it's not so much about how well a bassist could do in a given situation, it's more along the lines of what they bring to the table. You could probably throw a ton of different pro bassists into Eddie's band and they might all sound fantastic but they would all sound pretty different to. I just like what Hadrien has to offer. I probably dig him a little more than most folks, honestly, lol.

Hadrien is busy playing a lot here in LA, doing studio work and working on his solo material. All this talk of egos and what not, I can't speak about, but I can tell you I run into him here and there and have caught a few of his gigs. All I can say is he's a pretty cool cat, seems very down to Earth and is a hell of a player.

good to see hadrien is keeping up with lots of different artist these days.
cant understand some of the negative atmosphere here...its just music...artists evolve, play in different bands and move on..
i have to agree with Kwesi... for me HF is one of the most talented bassists to come along and for me some of his stuff is a revelation... his playing is unique and i can instantly recognize its him by listening to just a few notes.. (just like u can with jamerson, jaco, marcus miller, di piazza, carles benavent, m. garrison etc.)...it cant be denied that you can already hear his influence on many young players like dale anderson, evan marien etc...
personally i am looking forward to hearing more of HF for decades to come :)
