We're artists. Why some care about this stuff so much? Do people think as soon as pop groups are destroyed, the public is going to hustle back to Jazz? (Nothing wrong with jazz, I love Jazz)
Oh man am I going to sound like a hippie. Well...here goes
The big business music guys figured out all they had to do was market music to people and tell them it's good. So they accept. If you like it, I like it.
Old news, very old news. This is how music progresses. It's no big deal. Well it's no big deal until one thinks about the big picture.
Where has pop music been? Where is it going? The claim I'm going to make is going to hurt a lot of feelings. Which I understand, but, deal with it

.
Rock killed music. That's right, I said it. Specifically, the Beatles killed music. Those bad boys threw a formula out that no sane businessman could deny. 26 less paychecks out to 26 less musicians. Here's where it gets really real though: Rock doesn't take a lot of skill to play. There are skilled players in Rock, don't get me wrong, but it's just overall easy to play. So as this medium took over, we saw the number of musicians in pop decrease more and more and more. Till Kurt Cobain in the 90s. Rock had hit a new low. (I love Nirvana too, bare with me, I'm trying to make a point. The artists themselves all had good intentions.) Now we are starting do deal with less and less skill, more and more what's called "replaceable parts". What happened was the music industry became saturated with more and more people who believed they can make it.
Essentially they watered down individuals so they can't stand out. Because the audience wants what's cool, and artists have to make their way through "rock stars" who are just kids who love power chords.
Rap was risky but rewarding. Now, you've eliminated 4 stars into 1. And I fear electronic music is just getting started.
