What happened to the 62-63 Shell Pink JB Thread?

I have to tell you. I found a reference on the Internet to the thread that shall not be spoken of. It was on another site. And some guy comes running in and says hey, get over to TB right now, some guy just found a .... and it's all happening RIGHT NOW! And then there is blow by blow commentary, and then commentary on how it's all going sour and so on. This was a sensation and caught the attention of people outside of this forum.

Lol yeah I saw it in the UK on BassChat If that's what your talking about, The thread was called Guy finds Shell Pink Jazz Bass blah blah blah something like that.

Just go to Basschat and type Shell pink in the search box

Not at all, I've actually taken a few guitars apart before I'm not sure what I said to make me look so stupid, I was trying to say that I didn't feel comfortable doing it on a 50 year old guitar.

I actually custom painted my sons guitar for him a few years ago and love the way it turned out.

Not saying you said that, But I definitely must have given the impression that I couldn't do it as apposed to I really didn't want to do it.

I finally caved in and stopped second guessing myself.

OK, well I purposely didn't mention the site or use the exact wording because some guy there is showing how you can use google cache to see the original thread. I didn't try it to see if it worked, but just in case, didn't want to make it easy to find.

But yeah, that's the one.

Love the commentary that TB is "...more heavily infested with unhelpful contributors."

Okay so can any of you guys answer this question??????


Lets say that the shell pink is a spray over of some other color and the appraiser says so.

How doe's that effect it's rarity? It's value? and so on.

And is there a sure shot way of telling if it is or not????

I think what Green meant is that it was ballsy for my non professional butt to pull the neck, and in all honesty I have to agree with him lol I can't believe I actually went through with doing it.

I seriously was a nervous wreck the entire process.

I don't think anyone thought you couldn't do it, but even experienced people here who have done this many times thought that in this particular circumstance, just let a professional luthier handle it. No sense in tempting fate. But it's done now and it turned out ok, so good for you.

Yeah lol I know the Hmmmmm and no I can paint a bit but not that damn well, And I wouldn't have a clue how to get 50 year old checking evenly all over the body.

I'll post a pic of his guitar from when he was like 5 you'll see I call it custom but only because I wouldn't know any other way to describe it.

Definitely not a HMMMM type moment lol

77PBass, why are you starting stuff up already? Again? Do you want TB to continue to get a bad rep and for people like 1Shot to not share their discoveries because TB is hostile? I really don't understand. Let's let it play out instead of being hostile or else we don't get to follow along and see how the whole thing plays out. We got a second chance here. Let's not blow it this time.
