I know I'll regret this but, after searching for what feels like forever I finally bought my dream bass yesterday and it's super awesome, but I have to sell it today to finance a bass that I'm sooo totally sure will be the last bass I'll ever play.

Talkbass truths I have learned
- Tort is always the best pickguard.
- There is always someone ready to say "You need to use flats"
- Rickenbacker threads always attract haters.
- There is always someone ready to say "p-bass is the best"
- You will get flack if you start a new thread without using searching for existing threads first, but then you add your comment to an old thread you will get flack for ressurecting an old thread.
- You really need to get a vt bass pedal.

I'm pathetic and self-deluded because I'm 40 and still play originals.
I'm twice as pathetic because I slap when I do it.
I play a Carvin, so the electronics obviously suck, and my neck is gonna warp soon. Plus, it's active, and you can't get good tone out of an active bass. The fact that I think it sounds and plays fantastic is just evidence of my lack of ear and amateurishness.
My gig amp is a GK400RB into a Carvin 4x10, which obviously isn't loud enough, even if everyone can hear it just fine. If I like four 10" speakers that much, I should use two matched 2x10's, stacked vertically, if I expect to be taken seriously around here.
There's too much stuff on my pedalboard, and not enough of it is boutique. My Boss bass chorus and EHX bass Big Muff Pi are especially pathetic.
Guitar players are egotistical and ignorant, they play too loud, don't know anything about anything, and demand that we play only root notes.
Drummers aren't even musicians. They just bang on stuff.
"Trolling" is when someone says something you disagree with.
"Butthurt" is when you insist on defending your position, even if the person arguing with you is obviously smarter than you are.
The best solution in any Band Management thread is to fire someone. If you don't have the guts, just break up the band and then reform without the offending member.
OK, all that stuff's tongue-in-cheek and all in good fun. This one's serious: any time someone wants advice on gear, the resulting posts give you nothing but a list of what everyone else is using.

Slapping seems to be highly frowned upon around here. I think it's just because the people frowning upon it don't have the chops to do it.

A P-Bass (any color) with a tort guard and flats is the only correct bass, except when the correct bass is a $6000 coffee table with strings.

5 string basses are: Not real basses, Uncomfortable, foreign, unnecessary, only give you 5 extra unusable/unneeded notes...

A SS bass amp with 800 watts is often not enough.
A 300 watt tube bass amp is always enough power and often too much.
There is no difference between "tube watts" and "SS watts."
There is a huge difference between "tube watts" and "SS watts."
The rig I used throughout the 80's, with an 18/2x10 with horizontal 10's, with one cabinet on each side of the stage will not, could not, would not and did not work and couldn't fill a room. The phase cancellations alone caused the bass to disappear, destroy random patrons, and ended my 26 year marriage.
I have learned the error of my ways, and now stack all my speakers. However, at an outdoor gig, while playing on a flatbed trailer, my stack toppled and killed a young mother, two of her 4 kids and their dog. Thankfully, none of the speakers were damaged as they were all Peaveys.
