Why isn't the American P5 deluxe not a PJ? Is it the humbucker J? I had one and it definitely sounded like a PJ.

Why do people make threads about the largest mass-production bass companies making custom-spec instruments? That's what custom builders are for! People like Carvin can make custom instruments for less than some US-made Fenders cost, and expecting those custom specs on mid-low end instruments is just crazy.
Indeed. Who knows, we may someday see Fender try the model the OP is asking for. But if Fender hasn't gone and run an MIM PJ 5er, one suspects that they're not feeling demand in the public sufficient to support sales of an MIM PJ 5er. Browsing the MF bass listings in the $500-750 range, there are precisely two models with that configuration: the Yamaha BB425x, and the Ibanez SR655 (listed twice by MF for different colors - why do they do that?). In lower price ranges, there's the ESP LTD B-55 and, oh look, Squier does make a PJ 5er - in a VM Jag model. [Invalid or Expired Link Removed]
I think the To y Franklin sig is a fret less PJ. Fender made a PJ back in the 80s: I've got two of them old Jazz Bass Specials. They do different and innovative things but people want Ps and Js and guitars like daddy played.
As a luthier, I actually prefer these because they effectively adjust the relief from the nut all the way to the last fret. The ones that are adjustable from the headstock don't run all the way to the end of the neck, so sometimes we end up with weird diversions or other issues at the last couple of frets, especially if they've just been improperly set up by the guy at GC. It's nitpicky, but it makes some set ups less frustrating.
So in short, what they need to make is a truss rod adjustable from the headstock that still runs all the way to the end of the neck

Yeah, I would think you could still do this for equal to or less than an MIM. FWIW - I agree, to the extent that a P/J 5-string has become something between a trend and a standard. Fender might do it one day.

A '68 Telecaster style bass with contours, MIM or Asia so it would be affordable and without someone's name on the fingerboard. 
I have a bass made in 1967, that has a wheel just like the Music Man daisy wheel.
This is a pure business decision... Many Fender players own a P and a J bass. If Fender offered a MIA or even a good MIM PJ bass some Fender players would be content to only own that bass.
especially since most people want the j for only that bridge pu for the jaco type of stuff.
They should expand the MIM Classic line to include a 60's Classic Precision bass. Rosewood board and three color options: sunburst, Olympic white and candy apple red maybe?
I just want them to re-release the Blacktop series of instruments and maybe the Fender Urge. Most definitely the Steve Harris signature P that they just discontinued.
My Luthier would disagree with you! He HATES allen wrench truss rod adjusters. The big fat screw on the heel of the neck is a way better (i.e. less easy to mess up) method.

This. I very much prefer the heel adjust and have zero problems with it on my American Std. Though it rarely needs an adjustment, it's easy peasy with the 3/16 T-handle. The reissue models aren't as convenient, but they're reissues and really aren't that tough to work with when done correctly and with care. Also, I just think it looks better. I can imagine Fender some day offering a "best of both worlds" model, that has a nitro finish and retro appointments but with a heel access like the AmStd's have.
