What is your primary bass? Your #1?

The bass that I will be buried with, 97 Squier Protone. My first bass ever, I received it as a gift for my 15th birthday, I am now 33 and it is still my favorite go to in the studio and live when permits. I played it so much that the back of neck went from its original stain finish to now with a gloss shine, and the casing of the P pickup also caves in at where my right thumb rests. The bass has gone through countless of upgrades over the years. Currently, sporting a set of Seymour Duncan Vintage P and Classic Stack J, Hipshot bridge, Gotoh tuners and Fender flats.

I returned to regular playing and gigging a year and a half ago after around an 8 year break. Initially I was playing my 1977 Fender Jazz, mods, tons of mojo, yellowed with age, it plays and sounds great. However @ 12+ pounds it was killing my back and shoulder. I march of 2015, I was in Richmond for work, one evening I swung into a GC just down the street from my hotel. I had been wanting a P bass as well as a lighter alternative to my Jazz. Low and behold, they had an American Special Nitro Satin Honey Burst for $699, matching 2 piece body, great neck and about 8.5 lbs. Pretty much bought it on the spot and had it (nervously) shipped back home. I've upgraded the pickups to the Fender Original 62's and have had flats on it, but more recently it has Fender Pure Nickels. Its been my number 1 ever since. I have a simple, portable but powerful set up. Pbass=>Tone Hammer pedal=>Diamond Compressor=>GK MB212-ii.

I've played a lot of basses but for me nothing comes close to this pre gibson tobias. It's been my main bass for over 10 years. Played most of the clubs in Hollywood and SoCal with it. Roxy, Whisky, Troubadour, Viper room, El Rey, etc.. It also does brilliant in the studio. Ive had the privilege to record with it at some of the major studios in LA. Tons of mojo. The paint job on this monster was done in house at Michael Tobias' old shop in Burbank. It's a one off and there is very little info on it. Mike confirmed the authenticity for me many years ago.

Hmmm. That's a close call. Both of my MTD Kingston models play and sound great. The CRB5 is a 34 scale Precision 5 with TI flats. This is my #1 for that Jamerson/Pino Pbass vibe.

For more modern tones my AG5 gives me that 35 scale MTD 535 in your face vibe.
