What was your first bass guitar?

well since my brother picked up the bass before me i learned on his fender MIM j bass. Not bad compared to some of these.

Then MY first bass would be my Fender Deluxe Jazz 24. That baby plays like a dream but i HATE the preamp...maybe it's because i'm ignorant of how to use it. But instead i'll call myself an elitist and say i only like passive.

My very first bass was an Ibanez Roadstar II series that I got in 1985. That was a great bass and I wish I still had it. I wound up selling it for some quick cash in the 90's. I see some listed on Ebay every now and then, and I seriously consider buying one, but they always sell in the $200-$300 range. If only I could pick one up for the same low low price I sold it for!!!

Gretsch Electromatic, one of the last ones they made before Fender bought them out (or whatever happened), and I think they are discontinued now, as I've never seen another. Amazing bass, still my favorite.

Ibanez GSR200 - borrowed my friends for a weekend i dont even remember why to learn some stupid song, i think the intro to mxpx chick magnet. kid got into drugs and offered me the bass a practice amp (little crate), a hardshell case and some tab books. been tappin' into the low end ever since....what 7 years now?

My first was an Ovation Magnum 1. Super cool and weird, with great tone. If I could go back in time I would have kept it and had a luthier make me a 32" scale neck for it, and it would have been my primary daily player to this day. Sold the dang thing for about $250 a few years ago when nobody wanted them.

My first bass was Ibanez 335 copy from 60's or beginning of the 70's. I still have it. I wanted to sell it few months ago and I took it a few times to a flee market. There was some guy who was interested in buying it, but he didn't have enough money on him. Then we exchanged the phone numbers and decided to meet in a week or too.
In the following week I had a recording session and I took along this bass to give it a proper goodbye, 'cause by that time I've never been using it for recording.
It turned out that this bass has such a great and special sound I wouldn't want to give it away for twice as much as I wanted and when this guy called we agreed I can only lend it to him on occasion. I've made a decision never to sell it.

My first was an Ibanez SRX300. It was the first one I bought for myself and it now belongs to my daughter.

I liked that bass and still like the SRX model Ibanez basses but I just didn't play it much anymore. It got me hooked on the low end and I haven't looked back.

Your first bass needs to be a Fender Precision. This is where it started for electric bass and from there you can decide.

My first bass was an ´85 Squire Jazz Bass Made in Japan. Great bass. I traded it 1988 for a Yamaha BB1100 S active bass since playing those actives became very popular. Today I only play passive basses.

Fender Bullet B30. Mint, bought in 1993; Fender only made them in 1982/1983 before moving them over to Squire. Candy apple red. Little Mustang-style P pickup. 30" scale. Kind of nice, really.

My first was a 70's Lyle Jazz copy. My mom bought it for my 12th birthday for $100 from a pawnshop. 3 tone burst. Bound and blocked maple board. Lawsuit headstock. White Dimarzio p.u.'s. Someone had put a third J pickup closer to the neck that wasn't even connected. Wierd.

Killer Bass!! It kills me to this day that I got rid of it. It was 1988 and I had no idea what a nice bass it was. I think I replaced it with a Epiphone PJ. Bad move. the Lyle smoked it.

I keep hoping I will randomly run into it someday.

My first bass was an Epiphone Accu-Bass...got it with a starter pack from Ward-Brodt in Madison, WI (you know, small practice amp, strap and picks, etc). Basically just a cheap P-bass knock-off, though it did have a fairly unique sunburst finish, and a thumbrest, of all things. I used it exclusively for about a year and a half before getting a real Fender American Standard Precision bass. I recently sold the Epiphone to a friend this past winter, so she could give it to her boyfriend as a gift. It held up pretty well, though I think an internal solder connection was starting to go (sound would cut out occasionally).

mine was a cheap-as-**** jay turser p-bass copy. i still have it. it gives a decent unique sound bit the electronics were just so shoddy and it just felt cheap. still, i'll never sell it 'cos i learnt so much stuff on it
