Whatcha watching?

Lately, I've been watching cheesy old Japanese Sci-Fi movies. Love 'em! Fun and it does not take much "brain power" to watch them.

Last night......................

American actor Nick Adams is one of the actors along with Japanese actors. Strange, Nick Adams looks a lot like Vladimir Putin!

Fiennes is an actor with incredible range, and it's tempting to want to see him go fully off the rails, especially with such a mysterious and ominous setup. But I actually think the film (and Fiennes himself, who helped make the character) made a smart choice by keeping the character more restrained. Part of what made him unsettling was exactly that quiet composure. Rather than a cliché unhinged maniac he came across as someone who believes deeply in his ideology, no matter how disturbing it is. That calmness contrasted with the chaos he created, making it eerie. And instead of chewing the scenery, Fiennes leaned into subtlety, letting the viewer project whatever madness he had onto him through his actions and the atmosphere around him.

The film trusted us to fill in the gaps. Rather than wasting Fiennes’s talent, they used it in a more mature, controlled way. He didn’t need to be manic.

Binge watching season 1 of American Horror Story: Murder House. I'd forgotten how good the early seasons were. Didn't care much for some later seasons.

Excellent series.
Agreed. We stopped watching after season 2 because the clown freaked out my wife. :D

Last night we watched "John Wick Chapter 3: Parabellum". Our son wants to watch all of the JW movies.

Presumed innocent, on AppleTV - I just watched the first ep, but really like the characters and writing so far.

Smoke, also on AppleTV - I don't know about this. Again just one ep in, but It seems a bit full of itself and trying too hard to be edgy. I also made the mistake of reading reviews on IMDB and the consensus is the ending sucks.

Haven't seen it but a couple of years ago I listened to the true-crime podcast it's based on. I don't know if the show's ending reflects what really happens but the story is kind of wild.

I can't suspend my disbelief about the Addams's having morals. The joke is they like bad things and dislike good things. They enjoy torture. They remove stop signs and cause accidents and are gleeful. But in the show, they're all that and at the same time they're portrayed as honorable and honest and with a strong sense of justice. It worked for the movies. The contradiction annoys me when their character development is so drawn out.
Well the good/evil timeslot appropriate stuff played itself out by the end of the first series. What was left was a tight knit family of misfits making it work. That spoke to a growing sense of alienation in those beatnik days. By the time the movie got made the contrarian censor skirting logic was never gonna work. So they made it about outsider loyalty. To the delight of goth girls everywhere. I think Wednesday plays that to the hilt.
