Whatcha watching?

Alien: Earth’s latest episode is great, thoroughly enjoying this show.
So far, I'm pleasantly surprised with Alien: Earth. IMO, they nailed the aesthetics side of it. The whole transhumanist angle is an interesting attempt to get some fresh blood into the franchise. The series is supposed to take place even before the first Alien, so I'm not yet sure how that all fits together.

Just finished the Devo doc. Brilliant. I do wish they’d gone a little into how they learned to play their instruments and the music writing parts of their history.
That's on my list!

We watched episode 4 last night. It's getting interesting...

What a great Bogie movie.

Righteous Gemstones on Max. Freaking hilarious (to me and the wife at least). John Goodman, Danny McBride, Adam Devine, Edi Patterson, and more. Great cast and has been excellent throughout the series.

We've been bingeing this one lately, and agree completely. Started watching because I took a full time church gig, and the culture criticism is hilarious, but it's much deeper as well. Top notch show!

"Prohibition" by Ken Burns on PBS.

People tend to think Prohibition was as simple as a bunch of uptight, holier-than-thou prudes who just wanted to spoil everyone else's good time, but it was way more complicated and nuanced than that. This was a time long before all the support groups and treatment centers we have today. The destructive effects of alcohol in the pre-Prohibition days were basically unchecked. This documentary makes the reasons for wanting Prohibition much clearer. But it also exposes the unintended destructive effects of Prohibition itself. It's very informative and well balanced.

We watched this today. A fun, well made, genre-busting romp. Jack Quaid does great things with the premise, and Amber Midthunder proves even more why her star just keeps on rising. 🤩 If you do a search for it, specify "Novocaine 2025," since there's an older Steve Martin movie with the same title. Highly recommended!

I barely watched anything all summer, especially because my kids were out of school and it was either 95F or thunderstorms for most of it and I wanted to let them have the entertainment they wanted first. Since they've been back at school I've been stocking up on DVDs from the library lately and rewatching some favorites:

Star Trek: The Next Generation (up to S5 right now)
The Good Place (just finished S3)
Supernatural (just started S1)
Robocop (1987)
UHF (1989)
Ghostbusters (1984)
It Follows (2014)

I did watch some things with my kids. A bunch of Studio Gibli and Disney/Pixar films, both seasons of Gravity Falls, and there's seemingly always an episode of Bluey or Teen Titans Go! on in the background of our house on the weekends.

Can't remember a Ken Burns series I didn't enjoy. And I've seen a few back in the tape operator days. People have complained he puts some spin in with his facts. I think he does a good job of presenting a wide range of opinions. Excellent use of the long format

I binge watched the first season of Wednesday. It's good. The answer to the season long mystery was predictable. It's a fun show though. Jenna Ortega is very good.

I can't suspend my disbelief about the Addams's having morals. The joke is they like bad things and dislike good things. They enjoy torture. They remove stop signs and cause accidents and are gleeful. But in the show, they're all that and at the same time they're portrayed as honorable and honest and with a strong sense of justice. It worked for the movies. The contradiction annoys me when their character development is so drawn out.
