What's in your case?

IMG_2665.JPG Bass and strap.

Bass, strap, two cables (10' and 20'), Boughton HPF/LPF pedal, boss tuner, pack of strings (maybe new, maybe old, but matching what is currently on the bass). A damp 1" chunk of sponge in a leaky plastic bag to keep humidity stable in the winter.

A few other odds and ends wind up there from time to time. but these are the key ingredients.

  • Notebook, Postits, and pens
  • Tuner
  • Nail clipper
  • Nail file
  • Spare 9V battery
  • LED penlight
  • Extra set of strings
  • Combo wire cutter/peg winder tool
  • Swiss Army Knife ("Climber" model)
  • Strap
  • 2 tested cords
  • Microfiber cleaning cloth
  • Handiwipes
  • Small travel pack of Aspirin
  • The ubiquitous tin (Fisherman's Friend) with: a half-dozen picks, $2 worth of quarters, $20 bill, book of matches, 2 spare fuses, 2 bandaids.
  • Keeley Bassist pedal w/power adaptor.
Like some others here, I also pack (but usually leave in the trunk of my car) a full bore field tech kit with a more complete set of tools, spares for everything, first aid kit, etc.

no cases, but gigbags: repair kit (allen wrenches for neck, bridge, small phillips, etc), strap, cable, tuners. i carry a amall anvil case for: music stand, book for the night, extra cables, AC, stand light, sometimes a collapsible stool. in my car i carry the aspirin, bandaids, small cooler, change of clothes and extra pair of shoes (depending on the gig). and i have a shoulder bag with toiletries for out of town/overnight gigs, but it's usually kept in the car between gigs.

3 main basses I use at the moment.

Bass #1: Marleaux. My main bass for 2 of my bands and recording. The gigbag contains:
Strap with Schaller locks on it
3m cable with angled jack
Allen keys and small screwdriver in a bag
Spare 9v battery
Cleaning cloth
Pen and pencil
Korg tuner
Sharpie marker

Bass #2: Warwick Thumb. I have this in standard tuning and use it for my jazz gigs. Gigbag contains:
Strap with locks (bass has straplocks installed)
5m cable with angled jack
Spare 9v battery
Korg clip-on tuner
Pen

Bass #3: Stingray. I use it for my punk bands. Hardcase contains:
Strap, no locks
3m cable
Spare 9v battery
Extra set of strings
Multitool
GHS fast fret (I find the Stingray in particular to be sensitive to how worn the strings are)

I need more multitools, and should keep spare strings in all my cases but whatever. An extra tuner should be in my Stingray case.

In each gig bag:
Tuner
Two 10' cords
One or more short cords
Earplugs
Spare strings

BG bag only:
A few picks (emergency only...I'm not a pick player)

DB bag only:
preamp
moisturizer and sports tape (in case of blisters)

I have one small bag with batteries, tools, flashlight, fuses that I throw into whatever bag is going to the gig

In my cases, not much besides the bass. I made my own custom pedalboard, however, so it has storage built in under the slanted board. That's where my stuff is.

Currently:
Multi-tool
Tuner
Extra cables
Wireless unit and paraphernalia
Altoids tin of picks I never use
Strings
3 prong adaptor plug
Power strip
