I own 12 basses.
Each bass has its own strap, & that's the only item in its case.
On each case edge (by the handle) is a piece of masking tape with the make, model & color of that particular bass.

Everything else is in a briefcase & a Moog equipment bag which includes;

A pocket-sized Korg tuner
Power extension cords
Bass & speakon cables, & MIDI cables (for my synthesizers)
Assorted screwdrivers, allen wrenches & guitar tools
Strings & a string nipper
Set lists
SWR Headlite (back up head)

4. In one case there is a spare set of strings

In my pedaltrain case

2. Spare Patch cables
3. 1 9v
4. 6x 10-20 ft instrument cables
5. A box of AA's
6. My in ear receiver and monitors
7. My direct box in case everything goes to pot
8. Wire cutters
9. Screw drivers
10. One spare speaker cable in case my speakon in the rack craps out.

Those must be for a guitar player, since they are Petite sized. We low-enders need Magnums.

I carry very little in my bass case (usually a leather Levy's) - just a strap and a towel to wipe down the bass. But my gig bag is a completely different story - everything from a Leatherman knife/multi tool to fuses for the three different vintage Ampeg tube amps I lug around from gig to gig.

It's gotten a lot more complicated. Nothing in the bag for the upright, but in an old military bag: Tuner, SM58 and clip, FDeck high pass filter, and now a Line 6 G10 Wireless system and a bunch of short cords. The Line 6 wireless is perfect, works just like an instrument cable.

Yeah, this is a basic. I usually carry a bunch of condoms so I can provide them to my drummer and my singer whenever they need one... or two... or a pack.

I only have basses in my bass case. I carry another case with strings, power cables, instrument cables, speakon cables, MIDI cables, USB cables, allen keys, screwdrivers, wire cutters, soldering iron + consumables, picks, kazoos (don't know why), a couple of double bass preamps and a spare DB pickup, a Softstep 2 and an expression pedal. Probably other stuff too. It's heavier than my speaker cab but I'm the only guy who carries spares. :/

3. Two cables.
4. Cable to connect iPod/phone/laptop (1/8" stereo connector) to sound board via RCA or 1/4" stereo plugs.
5. Sennheiser 835 mic.

I bring two basses to gigs, so I don't bother with spare strings.

I don't know why I love these threads so much - must be my inner Cub Scout (or Hoarder).

I'm in the travelin' light camp with bass in a backpack style gig bag and only minimal essentials - plus cash for tipping the bar tender.

I also bring a gig duffle with a lot of the aforementioned accessories plus iPad with hundreds of jazz charts which can double as an MP3 player for set break / background music or a full on dance party.
