What's the LARGEST possible speaker? I'm talking about what's possible.

When speakers gets bigger, it starts to have some weird effects like warping from center to the edge inducing distortion (a lot).
Also, some of the biggest membrane starts to tilt on the Z axis in time, which is causing the coil to scratch on the magnetic motor.

Believe me, evenif it looks awesome, it is not the best idea to have large speakers.

I had a pair of the larger drivers- I should have kept them, but the cabinets wouldn't fit into my house. They weren't made for live sound or amplifying instruments but for reproduction, I have yet to hear anything that was better and sounded more real.

The smaller speaker is 15" diameter. To provide a better sense of scale, the woman in the second photo is fairly tall-

ehh...
I prefer multiple smaller cabs stacked.

Just throw them in the pack truck or a couple pickup trucks and go. This thing would require a flatbed being pulled by a Simi-truck, over height permits, also limiting your route. Good luck in down town with low hanging trees.

Now the most important part of taking that cab to the gig...

I was at a Chapman Stick conference years ago and Bill Burke (who plays Warr) was there. He was playing through a El Whappo and there were pieces of the ceiling falling down.

So question: In large PA speaker array installations, to me, there is a curve that the speakers follow. I am talking about the arrays they hang on both sides of the stage in large events. Is the curve and width/length ratio of those arrays specific? @agedhorse and others

It is specific to the area that is trying to be covered.

The biggest I have personally seen is 30 inches. It was ridiculously huge!

RCF used to sell a nice 30 inch woofer. Back in the mid-70s I had formulated plans to install one in the front of our drum riser, and use it to deliver a sub-octave of my bass signal, gated by the kick drum. Would have been a great effect for certain dance numbers! Unfortunately, the analogue pitch shifting technology wasn't quite there (could be done - but not for a price I could afford...)

I've never seen one in person but I recall in the 60s there was a company (Bozak?) that offered a 30" driver. I probably didn't know enough to read specs but I'm gonna bet the voice coil was no more than 3" and power handling was 35-40 watts.
