What's the purpose for a 85-175 string set?

Whole lot of science type stuff getting typed.
Personal experience.
Bought a set of the Roto low F# for £20 about 4 year back. Bored out the holes in the bridge to thread the strings,filed the nut. Had the worst time trying to tune the F# string, it wouldn't register on the Korg.

All that to find it was neigh impossible to hear unless cranked up, I was on ground floor with folks on either side and above. Cranked up wasn't happening,been in the cupboard ever since .

I think they have just realized that the world will continue to turn whether they like it or not and can't reconcile themselves to the fact that they have no say in the matter. Or maybe they need their mommies! :sorry:

The thing with metal is that they're always trying to outdo the last guy so that they can be the most brutal/technical/masculine or whatever. Once I figured it out I kinda got bored with the whole thing. Also, who doesn't want to hug their mother? Hugs are awesome, so are mothers.

A few of these tunes remind me of dream theatre . Maybe it's the keyboard. Never really listened to a lot of dream theatre though. I love the creative ways they folks use rhythm though. Hopefully the whole thing will keep evolving. The vocals kill it for me in a lot of this stuff. I feel that sometimes the tone and texture are predictable and 2 dimensional. I'm sure that singing that way has a very stringent technique that has to be mastered (not just to do, but to reproduce consistently without injury), but it's hard for me to appreciate it the way I can an instrumentalist who has given what may be the same level of comittment to perform in the same band.
Lots of interesting options for singers in pieces with these rhythms and melodies. They're leaving a lot on the table.
But maybe in a world where a genre can be defined with a palm mute, you follow the rules, punk!!

Partly why I listen mainly to doom these days. Not a lot of competition over being brutal/technical or masculine. And the riffs are often really catchy. And the people are pretty chill.

Are you distinguishing between crapping on low tunings vs crapping on certain bands that use low tunings, likely out of love for low tunings?

As a contributor to the latter, I can see how my post could be mistaken for the former.

That's pretty true, in my experience. I dunno, I still listen to metal and punk, to be honest. I've just dropped out of the scene in Windsor (before moving quite far away) and stopped associating with a lot of people in the scenes - with a few exceptions. They just took themselves way too seriously.

Yeah. I like the doom scene better because it's just a bunch of dorks/nerds who like to get really high and play really loud and slow.
