What's the purpose for a 85-175 string set?

'Way to Bodhi' made (and make) a big thing about having a world record for 'lowest tuned band', i expect there are others who have lower tuned projects.
The bass had a 40" scale and used a .266 string tuned to B00 15Hz an octave below standard B.

At roughly the same time Kalium Strings started selling a .266, and the new Kalium Quake basses have a 37-40" fan. At 2014 NAMM there was a 39.5" Quake tuned to G#00 13Hz using a .266.
The lowest bass string i know of is a custom of roughly .400 by Octave4Plus which was apparently tuned to F000 5Hz which is 3 strings below G#00 and 7 strings below E.
F A# D# G# C# F# B E A D G

Yes replacement nut required, however, nut replacement is not costly. This is for tuning very low Fsharp, B, E, A, for thunderous metal!!!!! Niiiice!! :) I like it.
Yes adjustment by a pro needed, however the low tuning of the strings means tension may not be so strenuous on the neck as inferred by some posts.
Another issue you may face is that your bridge may not accommodate the fatter strings without modification, however on a modern easy release bridge (not string through) it should be OK, but a standard Jazz bridge will not suffice.

That's pretty true, in my experience. I dunno, I still listen to metal and punk, to be honest. I've just dropped out of the scene in Windsor (before moving quite far away) and stopped associating with a lot of people in the scenes - with a few exceptions. They just took themselves way too seriously.
And now for something completely different. You are now living in NB?, if so you are in Zaum's territory so if you havent heard of them you might want to check this out. As someone not familiar to the genre its understandable that you might skip through the very mellow sections to get to the heavy stuff but!, still gonna be chill. It may grow on you. Smoke something for it ;)

Nice find. Never heard them before. Definitely caters to my love of epic, soundtrack-esque doom.
