Whats up with kids today?

No avoiding or "not getting" your point at all. My issue is the extent to which people seemed happy to go. Someone being an asshat or bully doesn't in any way give you free reign to do what you want to them.
Never said so. I talked about giving the guilty party a bruise. I never talked about putting somebody in a coma, torturing, or killing somebody. Learn to properly digest in interpret what is being read instead of swiftly jumping into "I better display how much better I am in public so people will think I'm cool" mode.

Please keep your fetishes to yourself.
If this were a private discussion, I'd agree to. Since this is a public discussion, you can decide for yourself (like a big boy) whether to add me to your Ignore List, simply glance at my post, or read its content.

I could ask you to keep your self-righteousness in check, but I doubt you'd curtail it.

I think people are generally inclined to forget the iniquities of their own youths when they lament the "apparent" falling standards of conduct today.

I ask you, of those of you complaining about how kids today are so irreverent, how many of you spent your high-school years high and drunk? Running around to KISS concerts against your parent's most fervent pleas?

Yeah. Most of the people I went to HS with were dedicated slackers and devout stoners.

Things have not changed that much in the past 20 years.

Quit kicking holes in people's metanarratives!!! We've all done extensive ethnographies in our own heads based upon our own infallible anecdotal experience that confirm that the youth of today is qualitatively more crappy than the youth of yesterday!

;)

Though I'm sure you would have been on the upper end of grades scored surely? Either that or a higher than average scoring school for other reasons? I'm not really familiar with the system, but looking at the SAT means (listed from '72, but persumably there wasn't any major changes between the mid-60s and early-70s), things don't seem to have changed much, language scores have dropped a bit and math scores have increased a bit, combined mean is down slightly.

The older we get the more we take the negative exceptions in societies as the standard.

Again, stop crapping on people's metanarratives with evidence!!!!

:D

Dude, you were talking about taking a baseball bat to someone. LMAO

While I'm not sympathetic to to the douchey "Make Me" kid in the OP, whacking someone with a baseball bat is a bit extreme when your life isn't in danger. If you can control your swing so you insure a bruise and nothing more, then I tip my hat to you. :D

Clearly he was never a base hitter...

Maybe my knowledge of history is a little weak at the moment, but I can't remember a time when beating a kid with a baseball bat wasn't considered assault and battery. I also don't know when "back in the old days" is, but we're reaching back to the middle ages at least to substantiate that kind of violence.

I'm sorry, but I'm not letting this go.

Just where did I write anything about beating a kid with a baseball bat?

ADbassman, can you provide any sort of answer to this?

If that was the case, then why did he quote me?

Im not sure, but it could have been because

a)you quoted him first
b)perhaps when you quoted him, he then mixed you up with the person he originally responded to
c)he figured since you quoted his response to SM, that you agreed with SM's comment, in which he mentioned hitting a kid with a baseball bat
d)its the internet, peoplre are ****ed up.

I'm only 25, but i remember being 13 and being a little s**t. It's not really new.. Except back than, i knew their was a chance if I got caught i'd expect a smack and a good one :P I can't remember at that age thinking, oh we'll they won't do anything because they can be charged! HA

So I geuss the rules have changed a bit, but for the youngin's i don't think the games changed much.

Ah yeah, I re-read the post and it seems that he was expounding on what SM wrote. It kind of gave the appearance that I had somehow written about the baseball bat part, which I certainly didn't.

Speaking of baseball, my son is in his second year of Little League and is doing extremely well. All the coaches are very impressed with his abilities. So far, it's been just practices. I can't wait for his first game.

Excellent, what position does he play?

I got a late start in Little League. All my friends had been playing for years and I joined up at 11. I became a star outfielder, and eventually worked my way up to third base. My most glorious play was throwing out one of the leagues best hitters at first.
