Now that I look at it, I've owned an awful lot of basses. In my defense, I've been playing for 45 years. And the most basses I've ever owned at one time is 8. Most of the time I only owned 2. But I've enjoyed playing a variety of instruments. There are fond memories behind each one. And I like buying, selling, swapping and trying new things. Only 5 basses in this list were bought new. Some of these I only owned for a few months and then sold or traded (breaking even or making a little profit). Also I have a very supportive wife. :D

Yup.

Basses in bold are ones I still own.

1. Slammer by Hamer P-bass clone, 2-tone sunburst with pearloid pickguard (covered in stickers, paint, glue, can't sell it, can't give it away, had a SD Steve Harris pickup installed that cost more than the bass itself). It's just about playable but to be honest just lays in its case in the attic. I can't bring myself to toss it out. Not sure it should still count but it's in my house, so...
2. 'Rita' 4-string Ibanez-sort of knockoff bass (i.e. made by Samick in the late 90's/early 2000's), flame maple top, translucent finish - actually pretty nice, my first really decent instrument that helped me develop technique.
3. No-name fretless jazz knockoff, black with tort pickguard (absolutely terrible instrument, zero intonation, fingerboard was all wonky, complete waste of money in all senses, made me swear off fretless instruments for years)
4. Ibanez 406, black (my first 6-string bass - helped me get my head around Dream Theater, Stratovarius, and all that good stuff, sold it to get my next 6-string)
5. Washburn XB-400, trans blue (nice little 4-string, really powerful preamp, thick full tone, pretty good instrument for its price)
5. Ibanez BTB 556 (my second 6-string, great instrument, sold it because I was low on cash)
6. Warwick Thumb BO 6 (my main workhorse bass for many years, weighs a ton but has an amazing sound, still use it regularly)
7. Music Man Stingray, 4-string, 2 EQ, candy apple red w/black pickguard (my main 4-string, I use it for my punk and punk-related projects, solid as a tank
8. Marleaux Consat Custom 6, quilt maple top, trans blue finish, all the frills - my dream bass, the 'let's push the boat out and go crazy' instrument I'd always been dreaming of. My main bass that gets the most use
9. Furch 5-string acoustic, lovely acoustic bass, excellent for recordings and acoustic-themed shows, and very handy for songwriting sessions
10. Sire Marcus Miller M7 2nd Gen, excellent instrument all around, really solid and versatile bass. Plasticky knobs are a bit of a letdown, though. This too needed some work from a tech but all around a very good instrument for the price
11. Ibanez BTB 846F fretless 6, finally got a good fretless bass (if it needed some work at the tech to properly be usable). All-around great, managed to use it for a bunch of gigs before Covid hit.
12. Marleaux Votan 5, all-black. Black finish, ebony FB, stained black neck. Huge, angry, aggressive tone, big chunky neck. Very very different from the Marleaux Consat. Gets a lot of use for more extreme metal projects.

2 more basses on the way in 2022. I might sell the Stingray if it's superfluous to requirements, but we'll see. I don't really get sentimental about instruments, they're tools.

Yes indeed!
